🚨 2024 Renault Kwid: Emergency Neutral

The 2024 Renault Kwid uses a conventional console-mounted automatic transmission lever with an electronic shift-lock system.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly.
  2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery power is available.
  3. Locate the shift-lock override slot, typically found as a small cap or cover near the base of the shifter on the console.
  4. Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap.
  5. Insert a flathead screwdriver, key, or similar thin tool into the override slot.
  6. Press down firmly on the override mechanism while simultaneously pressing the brake pedal (if power available) and moving the shifter to Neutral.
  7. If no power is available, continue pressing the override while moving the shifter to Neutral without the brake.
  8. Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or towed.

With zero electrical power
With no 12V power, the shift-lock override must be manually actuated. You will not need to press the brake pedal. Simply remove the override cap, press the override mechanism with a tool, and shift to Neutral. The steering wheel will remain locked, so the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed or towed with the front wheels raised.
