The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly.
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery power is available.
- Locate the shift-lock override slot, typically found as a small cap or cover near the base of the shifter on the console.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap.
- Insert a flathead screwdriver, key, or similar thin tool into the override slot.
- Press down firmly on the override mechanism while simultaneously pressing the brake pedal (if power available) and moving the shifter to Neutral.
- If no power is available, continue pressing the override while moving the shifter to Neutral without the brake.
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or towed.
