🚨 2025 Renault Megane E-Tech: Emergency Neutral

The 2025 Megane E-Tech Electric uses a compact electronic shift lever mounted on the center console with no traditional gear positions.

Expert-verified by Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — master technicians, 20+ years each.
⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.

The procedure

  1. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake if possible
  2. Attempt to activate the 12V system by pressing the start button without pressing the brake pedal
  3. If any power is available, press the brake pedal and move the shifter to N (neutral) position
  4. If completely dead, locate the 12V battery access (typically under the hood or in the front trunk area)
  5. Connect a jump starter or external 12V power source to restore minimal electrical function
  6. Once 12V system is active, press start button to ON mode (not ready-to-drive)
  7. Press brake pedal and select Neutral with the shift lever
  8. If 12V cannot be restored, vehicle must be loaded onto flatbed with all wheels off the ground
With zero electrical power
The Megane E-Tech requires 12V power to release the electronic parking brake and shift lock. Without any 12V power, there is no mechanical shift lock override - you must restore 12V power via jump pack or external battery connection. The 12V battery is separate from the high-voltage traction battery.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
CRITICAL: The Megane E-Tech Electric MUST be transported on a flatbed with all four wheels off the ground. The electric drivetrain can generate voltage if wheels rotate, potentially causing damage or creating a safety hazard. Do not tow with any wheels on the ground under any circumstances. There is no true mechanical neutral bypass for the electric drive system.
