The 2019 SEAT Leon uses a traditional console-mounted automatic transmission lever with electronic shift lock integrated into the shifter assembly.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and apply the parking brake firmly.
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining.
- Locate the shift lock override slot: it is a small rectangular opening with a plastic cover directly to the LEFT side of the shifter base, near the front edge of the shift gate.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to carefully pry off the small plastic cover over the override slot.
- Insert the key blade or a small flathead screwdriver straight down into the override slot (approximately 15-20mm deep).
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if power available) and move the shifter to Neutral.
- If no power, keep the override depressed and manually move the shifter to Neutral with firm forward pressure.
- The override mechanically releases the shift lock pawl; you may feel resistance but the shifter should move.
- Once in Neutral, remove the tool and replace the plastic cover.

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the override slot still functions mechanically. You will NOT be able to use power steering or power brakes, so vehicle movement requires extra caution. The override bypasses the electronic shift interlock entirely. If the steering lock has engaged, you may need to force the steering wheel left-right while turning the key to ACC to release it (this may require jump-starting just enough to power the steering lock solenoid).
