⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON position if battery has any charge remaining
- Locate the shift lock override release, which is typically a small rectangular slot or button near the shifter base
- Remove the protective cap covering the override slot by carefully prying it up with a flathead screwdriver
- Insert a flathead screwdriver, ignition key, or similar rigid tool into the override slot
- Press down firmly on the override mechanism while simultaneously pressing the shifter release button and moving the lever to Neutral
- Keep the override depressed throughout the shift motion until the lever reaches Neutral position
Shift-lock override location
Near the base of the console shifter, typically to the right side or front of the shifter assembly, covered by a small removable cap
With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the shift lock will engage by default. Use the mechanical shift lock override as described above. The override is purely mechanical and does not require electrical power. If steering lock engages, you may need auxiliary 12V power to unlock steering column before moving vehicle.
⚡ EV / hybrid warning
The Spacia uses Suzuki's S-Ene Charge mild hybrid system. The vehicle can be placed in Neutral and towed on a flatbed. Do not flat-tow with any wheels on the ground for extended distances. Always use a flatbed truck or trailer for towing to prevent damage to the hybrid drivetrain components.
