The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly.
- Attempt to turn the ignition to ON or READY mode if any battery power remains.
- Press and hold the brake pedal.
- Locate the shift lock override cover: look for a small removable cap on the left side or front of the shifter base, near the console.
- Remove the cover with a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool.
- Insert the screwdriver or key blade into the override slot and press down while moving the shifter from Park to Neutral.
- The shifter should release; move it to Neutral and hold until it engages.

With zero electrical power
The Century's electronically controlled shifter requires 12V power to function.
