🚨 2019 Toyota Hilux: Emergency Neutral
The 2019 Brazilian-market Hilux uses a traditional console-mounted automatic transmission lever with a mechanical shift lock solenoid.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and chock the wheels securely
- Set the parking brake firmly (mechanical foot pedal type)
- Locate the shift lock override—look for a small rectangular or circular cover/cap on the shifter console, typically near the base of the shifter on the left side or front
- Use a flathead screwdriver, key, or similar tool to pry off the override cover
- Insert the tool into the override slot and press down firmly
- While holding the override down, press the brake pedal (if 12V power available) and move the shifter from Park to Neutral
- If no brake pedal pressure available, continue holding the override while moving the shifter—it should release mechanically

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the mechanical shift lock override should still function. Insert tool into override slot and press down while moving shifter to Neutral. The mechanical design allows the shifter to be released without electrical power. If the override does not work, check that you are pressing deep enough into the slot to compress the mechanical release.
