⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake firmly
- Turn the power mode switch to ON (press without brake pedal) - this requires some 12V battery power
- Press and hold the brake pedal firmly
- Press the 'N' (Neutral) button on the gear selector
- If the 12V battery is completely dead and power mode cannot be activated, you cannot electronically shift; proceed to the shift lock override method
- Locate the shift lock override cover on the center console - it is a small removable cap near the gear selector button panel (typically forward or to the side of the button array)
- Use a flat-head screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cover
- Insert the tool into the shift lock override slot and press down while simultaneously pressing the 'N' button
- Once in Neutral, the vehicle can be moved or loaded

With zero electrical power
With zero 12V power, the electronic push-button shifter will not function at all. The shift lock override may allow neutral selection if some residual power exists, but if completely dead, the vehicle must be loaded onto a flatbed with wheels free or dollies used. Do not attempt to tow with driven wheels on the ground.
