🚨 2023 Volkswagen Polo Track: Emergency Neutral
The 2023 Polo Track uses a traditional console-mounted automatic shifter with electronic shift lock integrated into the lever assembly.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on level ground and the parking brake is firmly applied
- Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position if possible (if battery has any residual charge)
- Locate the shift lock override slot—look for a small rectangular cap on the left side of the shifter base near the P gate
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to carefully pry off the override cap
- With the brake pedal pressed (if you have electrical power) or without it (dead battery scenario), insert the screwdriver straight down into the override slot and push firmly
- While holding the override down, press the shifter button and move the lever from P to N
- Remove the tool and replace the cap once the vehicle is in neutral

With zero electrical power
With completely dead battery, the override slot bypass works mechanically—no electrical power needed. The shift lock is a mechanical solenoid that the override physically releases. You do NOT need to press the brake pedal when using the override with zero power.
