The 2022 Vento uses a traditional console-mounted automatic shifter with a push-button release on the shifter knob and a shift-lock override slot.

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Set the parking brake firmly and chock the wheels.
- Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start engine) if battery has any charge remaining.
- Locate the shift-lock override slot: it is a small rectangular opening with a plastic cover cap, located on the left side of the shifter base assembly near the bottom of the shift console.
- Use a flathead screwdriver or the metal key blade to pry off the small plastic cover cap over the override slot.
- Insert the screwdriver or key into the override slot and press down firmly while simultaneously pressing the brake pedal (if electrical power available) and the shifter button.
- Move the shifter from Park to Neutral while maintaining pressure on the override.
- If successful, the vehicle can now roll freely; keep brake pedal depressed or parking brake engaged until ready to move.

With zero electrical power
With zero electrical power, the shift-lock override slot remains mechanical and functional. You do not need battery power to use the override—simply access the slot, press down with a tool, and move the shifter. The ignition position does not matter when using the mechanical override with no power.
