🚨 2017 Volvo S90 Recharge: Emergency Neutral

⚠️ Chock the wheels first — neutral means the car can roll. Set the parking brake while you work, never stand downhill of the vehicle, and try a 12-volt jump before any override: power fixes most stuck-in-park problems instantly.
The procedure
- Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and apply the parking brake if functional.
- Press the START button without pressing the brake pedal to activate ignition (accessory mode).
- Firmly press and hold the brake pedal.
- Push the shifter forward to select Neutral from Park position.
- If the shifter will not release due to shift interlock failure, locate the shift lock override slot on the left side of the shifter assembly.
- Remove the small rubber cover/cap to access the override slot.
- Insert a screwdriver or the emergency key blade into the slot and press down while attempting to move the shifter to Neutral.
- Once in Neutral, maintain ignition in ON/accessory mode if possible for power steering and brake boost.

With zero electrical power
With a completely dead 12V battery, the hybrid system and electronic shifter are inoperative. Jump-start the 12V battery (located in the trunk) to restore minimal electrical function, then follow the override procedure. The high-voltage hybrid battery does not help with 12V systems. If jump-starting fails, flatbed towing with dollies is required.

The S90 Recharge is a plug-in hybrid. Even with the high-voltage battery charged, a dead 12V battery prevents all vehicle functions. Do NOT attempt to tow with drive wheels on the ground—the electric motor and transmission can be damaged. Use flatbed or wheel-lift with rear wheels off the ground only. Engage tow mode if 12V power is available: ignition ON, Neutral selected, parking brake released.
