Preparation
- Ensure engine is completely cold to the touch (minimum 2 hours after last operation)
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Place drain pan under radiator drain petcock on passenger side lower corner of radiator
- Remove radiator cap slowly to relieve any residual pressure
Procedure
- 1Drain coolant from radiatorOpen the radiator drain petcock located at the lower passenger side of the radiator by turning counterclockwise. Drain sufficient coolant to drop level below the upper radiator hose connection point (approximately 1-2 gallons). Close petcock when complete.
- 2Loosen radiator-side hose clampLocate the worm gear clamp securing the upper hose to the radiator inlet neck. Use a flathead screwdriver to loosen the clamp screw by turning counterclockwise. Slide the clamp back away from the radiator neck approximately 2-3 inches along the hose.
- 3Loosen thermostat housing hose clampLocate the worm gear clamp at the thermostat housing on the front of the engine block (driver side). Loosen the clamp screw and slide it back along the hose away from the housing connection.
