Carpet

Complete removal and replacement of interior carpet, requiring removal of all seats, center console, door sill trim, and dashboard lower panels to access carpet and sound deadening.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for airbag system to discharge
3. Move front seats fully forward, then fully rearward to access all mounting bolts
4. Document position of seat adjustment settings for reinstallation reference
5. Remove floor mats and inspect for water damage or rust on floorpan
6. Take comprehensive photos of carpet routing around pedals, center console, and door sills

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove front seats
   Move each front seat to mid-position for access. Remove the plastic covers from the seat rail bolt access points (4 per seat). Remove the four TORX-head seat mounting bolts per seat — Torx confirmed hands-on on this platform, not 16mm hex. Disconnect the electrical connectors under the seat: heating, airbag/side-impact sensor, and (passenger side) the occupancy sensor — typically 3-4 connectors. Lift the seat out and store it on a protected surface away from the work area.

   Remove rear seat cushion and backrest
   Pull the rear seat cushion firmly upward at the front edge to release the retaining clips and remove it. The lower cushion and upper backrest are connected by a wiring harness — no console or armrest disassembly is needed for rear seat removal. Remove the THREE Torx bolts securing the upper backrest, then disconnect the two harness connectors (one to the car body, one to the seat lower) and lift the backrest out.

   Remove center console
   The console storage-box liner hides no screws — skip it. Pull the woodgrain trim around the shifter straight up, disconnect its harnesses (about 4), and rotate the panel to clear the radio stack and the shifter. Remove the shifter assembly (roughly 16 Torx screws). Pull the rear climate / seat-heater control unit out as one piece. Remove the console side trims at the front sides — each held by 2 horizontally mounted Torx screws. Remove the two console screws at the front under the radio/climate stack, and the two revealed at the rear bottom once the rear climate unit is out. Disconnect the remaining harnesses, feed them through, and remove the console.

   Remove door sill trim and B-pillar lower trim
   Remove door sill trim plates on both sides (front and rear doors) by carefully prying upward with trim tool starting at front edge. These are retained by 3 clips per sill plate. Remove lower B-pillar trim panels on both sides by pulling outward to release clips (2 clips per panel). On front door sills, disconnect any puddle light connectors before fully removing trim. Set trim pieces aside with clips oriented upward to prevent damage.

   Remove lower dashboard panels and kick panels
   Remove driver side lower dashboard panel (dead pedal area) by removing 3 screws along top edge and pulling bottom edge outward to release clips. Disconnect hood release cable from bracket if necessary. Remove passenger side lower panel by removing 4 screws and releasing clips. Remove kick panels on both sides (adjacent to front door hinges) by pulling outward to release clips (2 clips per panel). On driver side, carefully work panel around pedal cluster area.

   Disconnect carpet-mounted components
   Disconnect the components actually attached to the carpet: center floor air duct connections, carpet retention brackets along the transmission tunnel, and harness clips routed along the floor. The seat belt buckles do NOT pass through or mount to the carpet on this platform — they bolt to the B-pillar body at the pretensioner and to the seat itself, so no belt hardware comes off for carpet removal. Remove the speaker covers that join the front and rear carpet sections where they overlap. Note: this vehicle uses an electronic parking brake (switch), so there is no parking brake pedal trim cover. Disconnect any carpet temperature sensors if equipped.

   Remove carpet from rear cargo area (if applicable)
   Fold rear seats forward if not already removed. Remove rear cargo area trim panels by releasing clips along edges (typically 6 clips around perimeter). Pull carpet upward from rear, working forward. Remove any rear seat belt mounting covers or trim pieces that overlap carpet edges. Disconnect rear cargo area light connectors if carpet routing interferes.

   Remove front carpet sections
   The cabin carpet is TWO sections — front and rear — overlapping where the speaker covers join them. With the covers off, remove the sections separately. Work the front section upward and rearward around the pedal cluster, steering column, and transmission tunnel (manual cars: also the clutch pedal). Free each section from the retention clips along the door sills and firewall, and remove any remaining clips from the floorpan. If replacing the sound deadening, soften the adhesive with a heat gun and scrape it clear.

   Prepare floorpan and install sound deadening
   Vacuum all debris from bare floorpan. Inspect for rust, damage, or water intrusion points. Treat any rust with appropriate rust converter. If installing new sound deadening material, clean floorpan with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry. Cut sound deadening material to match original pattern or use original as template. Apply material starting at center and working outward, using roller to ensure full adhesion. Trim material around all mounting points, drain plugs, and seat belt anchors. Reinstall any carpet retention clips that were removed from floorpan.
10. 10

    Install new carpet
    The new carpet installs as two sections, front and rear. Position each section, working the front around the pedal cluster — verify full pedal travel before securing anything — and around the transmission tunnel. Align the overlap between the sections and reinstall the speaker covers that join them. Ensure the retention clips engage along the door sills and firewall, trim around anchor and console mounting points using the old sections as reference, and apply carpet adhesive to high-wear areas per the adhesive instructions.
11. 11

    Reinstall carpet-mounted components
    Reinstall seat belt buckle anchors through carpet, ensuring proper alignment with mounting points. Torque buckle bolts to specification. Reconnect center floor air duct connections. Reinstall any carpet retention brackets along transmission tunnel. Reconnect harness clips and route wiring along floor as originally positioned. Note: this vehicle uses an electronic parking brake; no parking brake pedal trim cover applies. Verify all electrical connections are secure and no wires are pinched under carpet edges.
12. 12

    Reinstall lower dashboard panels and kick panels
    Reinstall kick panels on both sides, pressing firmly to engage clips. Reinstall driver side lower dashboard panel, routing hood release cable through bracket and securing with screws. Reinstall passenger side lower panel, ensuring all clips engage before tightening screws. Verify all dashboard panel screws are torqued properly and panels sit flush with no gaps.
13. 13

    Reinstall door sills and B-pillar trim
    Replace any damaged door sill or B-pillar trim clips with new clips. Position door sill trim plates and press downward firmly until all clips engage (you should hear distinct clicks). Reconnect puddle light connectors on front door sills. Install lower B-pillar trim panels by pressing firmly until clips engage. Verify all trim pieces sit flush and secure.
14. 14

    Reinstall center console
    Route center console into position, feeding gear selector through opening. Connect all electrical connectors for USB ports, power outlet, and parking brake switch. Align console with mounting points and install front and rear mounting screws. Reconnect gear selector trim panel electrical connector and snap trim panel into place. Install cupholder insert and console liner. Verify all console functions operate correctly (USB charging, power outlet, lighting).
15. 15

    Reinstall rear seat backrest and cushion
    Position rear seat backrest and engage upper clips by pushing backrest firmly into place. Install lower backrest mounting bolts and torque to specification. Position rear seat cushion and press downward firmly at front edge until retaining clips engage (should hear distinct clicks). Verify seat cushion is secure and does not move when pulled upward.

    Reinstall front seats
    Position each front seat over mounting points. Connect all electrical connectors under seat (heating, occupancy sensor, airbag). Ensure no wires are pinched between seat rails and floor. Install seat mounting bolts finger-tight first to allow alignment adjustment. Once all four bolts per seat are started, torque all bolts to specification in cross pattern. Install plastic covers over mounting bolt access holes. Return seats to original adjustment positions per documentation taken during removal.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect negative battery terminal and tighten securely
2. Initialize power windows by lowering each window fully, then raising fully and holding switch for 2 seconds at top position
3. Reset clock and radio presets
4. Verify all interior lighting functions correctly (dome lights, footwell lights, door courtesy lights)
5. Test all seat functions including adjustment, heating, and memory settings if equipped
6. Verify seat belt buckles engage and release properly

Verification

• Visually inspect carpet installation for proper fit with no bunching or gaps at edges
• Verify full pedal travel on all pedals with no carpet interference
• Test driver seat occupancy sensor by sitting in seat and verifying airbag light behaves normally (should illuminate briefly at start then extinguish)
• Verify no warning lights on dashboard related to seat belt systems or airbag systems
• Test seat belt buckles under moderate load to verify proper anchoring
• Verify all trim panels sit flush with no rattles or loose clips
• Check for any electrical issues with seat heating, adjustment motors, or memory functions
• Inspect door sill areas for proper carpet tucking under trim with no exposed edges
