Fog Light Assembly

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the fog light assembly on a 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, including disconnecting the electrical connector and reinstalling the housing.

• Fog light assembly (left or right as needed) × 1 — GM 84512430 (left) or 84512431 (right)
• Fog light bulb (if not included with assembly) × 1 — H16 bulb or use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Turn off ignition and ensure fog lights are completely cool
3. Gather all tools and new fog light assembly
4. If equipped, turn steering wheel to full lock (left for driver side, right for passenger side) to improve access

Procedure

1. 1

   Access the fog light assembly
   Locate the fog light assembly in the lower front bumper. For improved access, you may need to turn the wheels to the opposite side. The fog light is accessed from behind the bumper cover through the wheel well opening or from underneath the vehicle.

   Disconnect the electrical connector
   Reach behind the fog light housing and locate the electrical connector. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight back to disconnect it from the fog light assembly. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation.

   Remove the fog light mounting fasteners
   Using a 7mm socket or nut driver, remove the mounting screws or bolts securing the fog light assembly to the bumper cover. Most assemblies use two or three fasteners. Keep these fasteners organized as they will be reused.

   Remove the fog light assembly
   Carefully pull the fog light assembly forward and out of the bumper cover opening. You may need to rotate or angle the assembly slightly to clear the bumper mounting tabs. If the assembly is stuck, gently work it side to side while pulling forward.

   Inspect the mounting area
   Clean the mounting surface on the bumper cover, removing any dirt, debris, or corrosion. Inspect the mounting tabs and alignment pins for damage. Check the seal or gasket on the new fog light assembly to ensure it is properly seated.

   Install the new fog light assembly
   Align the new fog light assembly with the mounting holes in the bumper cover. Ensure any alignment pins or tabs are properly seated. Gently press the assembly into position until it is flush with the bumper cover surface.

   Install mounting fasteners
   Install the mounting screws or bolts by hand to start all threads. Once all fasteners are started, tighten them in a cross pattern to ensure even seating of the assembly. Typical installations use Cover Screws torque specification if equipped with threaded fasteners.

   Reconnect the electrical connector
   Push the electrical connector firmly onto the fog light assembly terminals until you hear or feel a positive click. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is securely locked in place. Ensure no wires are pinched or stressed.

Reassembly

1. Verify the fog light assembly is seated flush with the bumper cover and all mounting fasteners are secure
2. Ensure the electrical connector is fully engaged and locked
3. Return steering wheel to center position if it was turned for access

Verification

• Turn on the vehicle ignition and activate the fog lights using the headlight switch
• Verify both fog lights illuminate properly and there are no warning lights on the dashboard
• Inspect the fog light assembly from outside the vehicle to ensure proper alignment and seating in the bumper cover
• Check for any light leaks around the fog light housing seal
• Test fog light operation with headlights in various positions (off, parking lights, low beam) to ensure proper function
