Parts

  • Front window regulator and motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or ACDelco 11A828
  • Door panel retaining clips × 1 — Purchase replacement clip set

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Roll the window fully up and mark the glass position with masking tape for reinstallation reference
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes to allow airbag system to discharge
  4. Gather all tools and replacement parts before beginning

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove door panel
Remove the door pull handle cover by prying gently with a trim tool. Remove T30 Torx screws securing the door handle assembly. Remove all door panel retaining screws located at the bottom and edges of the panel. Use door panel removal tools to carefully release the retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Lift the panel upward to disengage it from the door frame, then disconnect any electrical connectors for power locks, windows, and mirrors.
  2. 2
    Remove water barrier
Carefully peel back the plastic water barrier sheet from the door frame. Work slowly to avoid tearing the barrier as it will need to be reused. Only remove enough of the barrier to access the window regulator mounting bolts and motor connector.
  3. 3
    Secure window glass
Roll the window glass to approximately 4 inches from the top of the door frame. Use masking tape or a window wedge to secure the glass in this position, taping from the glass to the top of the door frame. This prevents the glass from falling when the regulator is disconnected.
  4. 4
    Disconnect window motor electrical connector
Locate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the connector release tab and disconnect the harness from the motor. Move the harness aside to provide working clearance.
  5. 5
    Disconnect glass from regulator
Locate the two bolts securing the window glass to the regulator lift channels through the access holes in the door frame. Use a 10mm socket to remove these bolts. Carefully separate the glass from the regulator assembly while maintaining support of the glass.
  6. 6
    Remove regulator mounting bolts
Locate all regulator mounting bolts inside the door cavity. There are typically 3-4 bolts securing the regulator assembly to the door frame. Use a 10mm socket to remove all mounting bolts. Note the position of any brackets or ground straps attached to the mounting points.
  7. 7
    Remove regulator and motor assembly
Carefully maneuver the regulator and motor assembly through the large access opening in the door frame. The assembly may need to be tilted and rotated to clear the door frame structure. Work slowly to avoid damaging the regulator cables or motor during removal.
  8. 8
Install new regulator and motor assembly
Position the new regulator and motor assembly into the door cavity, maneuvering it through the access opening in the same manner as removal. Align the regulator mounting holes with the door frame mounting points. Install all mounting bolts finger-tight initially to allow for adjustment. Torque mounting bolts to specification.

  9. 9
    Connect glass to regulator
Lower the secured window glass down to align with the regulator lift channels. Insert the glass into the regulator channel mounting points and install the two 10mm bolts. Torque to specification. Remove the tape or wedge supporting the glass.

  10. 10
    Reconnect electrical and test operation
Connect the window motor electrical connector to the harness. Temporarily reconnect the negative battery cable. Test window operation through full up and down travel to verify proper installation and smooth operation. Check for any binding or unusual noises. Disconnect battery again before proceeding.
  11. 11
Reinstall water barrier and door panel
Carefully reposition the plastic water barrier, ensuring all edges are properly sealed to prevent water intrusion. Reconnect all electrical connectors for the door panel components. Position the door panel onto the door frame, engaging the top edge first, then pressing firmly around the perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Install all door panel screws and the door handle assembly with T30 Torx screws. Replace the door pull handle cover.
  12. 12
    Final reconnection and testing
Reconnect the negative battery cable and torque to specification. Perform complete window function test including auto-up and auto-down features if equipped. Test window from both door switches and master switch. Verify window seals properly at full up position and travels smoothly through entire range.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all door panel clips are properly seated before installing screws
  2. Verify water barrier is completely sealed to prevent moisture entry into door cavity
  3. Test all door functions including locks, mirrors, and speakers after reassembly

Verification

  • Operate window through complete up and down cycles multiple times to verify smooth operation
  • Check that window fully closes and seals against weather stripping with no gaps
  • Verify auto-up and auto-down features function correctly if equipped
  • Listen for any unusual noises during window operation
  • Confirm all door panel components are secure with no rattles
