Warnings

⚠️Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always use jack stands rated for the vehicle weight.
Engine oil and components may be extremely hot if engine has been running. Allow engine to cool for at least 30 minutes before starting work.
Used engine oil contains harmful contaminants. Avoid prolonged skin contact and dispose of used oil properly at a recycling facility.
ℹ️This vehicle requires dexos1 0W-20 engine oil. Using incorrect oil can void warranty and cause engine damage.

Fluids

  • ACDelco dexos1 0W-20 — 8.5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level, solid surface and apply parking brake
  2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
  3. Allow engine to cool if recently operated (minimum 30 minutes)
  4. Gather all tools, parts, and fluids before beginning
  5. Reset oil life monitoring system after service completion: Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine, fully depress and release accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds, system will reset when oil life indicator begins to flash

Procedure

  1. 1
    Raise and support vehicle
Raise front of vehicle with floor jack at designated front jacking point on frame. Install jack stands under frame rails behind front wheels. Raise rear of vehicle and install jack stands under rear axle tubes or frame rails. Lower vehicle onto all four jack stands. Verify vehicle is stable before working underneath.
  2. 2
    Remove wheels for tire rotation
Remove all four wheels and set aside. Mark wheel positions (LF, RF, LR, RR) with chalk or tape to ensure proper rotation pattern. For RWD configuration, use rearward cross pattern: move front tires straight to rear on same side, move rear tires to opposite front positions.
  3. 3
    Drain engine oil
Locate oil drain plug on rear driver side of oil pan. Position drain pan directly under drain plug. Using appropriate socket, loosen drain plug slowly. Once loose, quickly remove by hand while maintaining upward pressure to prevent oil spillage. Allow oil to drain completely (approximately 5-10 minutes). Remove and discard old crush washer from drain plug.
  4. 4
    Remove oil filter
Oil filter is located on driver side of engine block, above the oil pan. Position drain pan under filter. Using oil filter wrench, rotate filter counterclockwise to remove. Allow remaining oil to drain from filter mounting surface. Clean filter mounting surface on engine block with clean rag, ensuring old gasket is completely removed.
  5. 5
Install new oil filter and drain plug
Apply thin film of clean engine oil to rubber gasket on new oil filter. Thread filter onto mounting boss by hand, turning clockwise. Once gasket contacts mounting surface, tighten an additional 3/4 turn by hand only (do not use wrench). Install new crush washer onto drain plug. Thread drain plug into oil pan by hand, then torque to specification using torque wrench.
  6. 6
    Perform undercarriage inspection
While vehicle is raised, inspect the following: CV axle boots for tears or grease leaks, exhaust system for damage or leaks, brake lines and fuel lines for corrosion or damage, shock absorbers for fluid leaks, suspension components for excessive wear, differential for fluid leaks at pinion seal and cover gasket, transmission pan for leaks. Note any concerns for customer.
  7. 7
    Rotate and reinstall wheels
Install wheels in rotated positions according to rearward cross pattern. Thread lug nuts by hand until seated. Using torque wrench, tighten lug nuts to specification in star pattern (tighten opposite nuts sequentially, not adjacent). Make two complete passes in star pattern to ensure even torque distribution.
  8. 8
Lower vehicle and fill engine oil
Raise vehicle slightly with jack, remove jack stands, then lower vehicle completely to ground. Open hood and remove oil filler cap on driver side valve cover. Using funnel, add 8 quarts of ACDelco dexos1 0W-20 engine oil. Wait 2 minutes, then check oil level on dipstick. Add remaining oil as needed to bring level to FULL mark. Do not overfill.
  9. 9
    Replace engine air filter
Locate air filter housing on driver side of engine compartment. Release four spring clips securing air box cover. Lift cover and remove old air filter element. Inspect air box for debris and clean if necessary. Install new air filter element with flow direction arrow pointing toward engine. Reinstall cover and secure all four clips firmly until they click into place.
  10. 10
    Replace cabin air filter
Locate cabin air filter access door on passenger side of vehicle, behind glove box. Press inward on both sides of glove box to release stops and lower glove box fully. Remove cabin air filter access door by pressing release tabs. Slide old cabin air filter out, noting orientation of airflow arrows. Install new filter with arrows pointing in same direction (toward rear of vehicle). Reinstall access door and return glove box to normal position.
  11. 11
    Check and adjust tire pressures
Check tire pressure in all four tires using accurate tire pressure gauge. Refer to driver door jamb sticker for correct pressures (typically 35 PSI front and rear for this vehicle, but verify on sticker). Adjust as necessary. Check spare tire pressure and adjust to specification (typically 60 PSI).
  12. 12
    Perform fluid level inspection
With engine cold, check the following fluid levels and top off as needed: engine coolant reservoir (should be at COLD FILL line), brake fluid reservoir (should be between MIN and MAX), power steering fluid reservoir if equipped (should be at COLD mark), windshield washer fluid. Visually inspect transmission for leaks but do not check fluid level (transmission is sealed and requires special procedure).
  13. 13
    Inspect belts, hoses, and battery
Visually inspect serpentine belt for cracks, fraying, or glazing. Check all coolant hoses for soft spots, cracks, or leaks. Inspect battery terminals for corrosion and ensure connections are tight. Check battery hold-down is secure. Inspect wiper blades for wear or damage.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure oil filler cap is reinstalled securely on valve cover
  2. Verify air filter housing cover is properly latched with all four clips engaged
  3. Confirm glove box is properly reinstalled and operates normally
  4. Double-check that all wheels are torqued to specification in star pattern

Verification

  • Start engine and allow to idle for 2-3 minutes. Monitor oil pressure gauge to confirm normal pressure
  • Inspect under vehicle for oil leaks at drain plug and filter. Address immediately if any leaks are found
  • Turn off engine and wait 5 minutes. Recheck oil level on dipstick and verify it is at FULL mark
  • Reset oil life monitoring system using preparation procedure
  • Verify oil life indicator shows 100% on instrument cluster
  • Test drive vehicle 5-10 miles, then recheck oil level and inspect for leaks
  • Verify all warning lights are off and vehicle operates normally
  • Document tire rotation and note any inspection findings for customer
