Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key
- Disconnect negative battery cable
- Wait at least 2 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
- Remove any floor mats from passenger side footwell
- Adjust passenger seat fully rearward and upward for maximum access
- Allow HVAC system to cool completely if recently operated
Procedure
- 1Access the blower motor areaPosition yourself in the passenger footwell. The blower motor is located on the lower right side of the HVAC case, beneath the glove box area. You may need to remove the passenger side lower dash insulator panel if equipped for better access. Use a flashlight to locate the blower motor cover.
- 2Disconnect blower motor electrical connectorLocate the blower motor electrical connector on the side of the blower motor assembly. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight out from the blower motor. Inspect the connector terminals for corrosion or damage. Do not pull on the wires themselves.
- 3Remove blower motor cooling tubeThe blower motor has a cooling air tube connected to it. Gently pull the rubber cooling tube off the blower motor housing. This tube provides cooling air from the cabin to the motor. Note its orientation for reinstallation.
- 4Remove blower motor mounting screwsUsing a 7mm socket or nut driver, remove the three screws securing the blower motor assembly to the HVAC case. These screws are arranged in a triangular pattern around the blower motor flange. - 5Remove blower motor assemblyCarefully rotate and pull the blower motor assembly out of the HVAC case opening. You may need to angle it slightly to clear the fan cage through the opening. Lower the assembly down into the passenger footwell and remove it from the vehicle. Be careful not to damage the fan blades.
- 6Clean the HVAC case openingWith the blower motor removed, use a shop vacuum to clean any debris, leaves, or dirt from the HVAC case opening and the area around the blower motor mounting flange. Inspect the HVAC case for any cracks or damage. Clean the sealing surface where the blower motor mounts.
- 7Prepare new blower motorRemove the new blower motor from its packaging and verify it matches the original. Check that the fan cage rotates freely and that the electrical connector pins are clean and undamaged. Compare mounting hole positions with the old unit.
