Preparation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and isolate from terminal

Remove camshaft sprocket bolts while holding camshafts with wrench on hex portion. Remove timing chain and both camshaft sprockets together. Remove crankshaft sprocket using puller if tight.

    Remove Cylinder Heads
    Remove all cylinder head bolts in reverse of tightening sequence (from ends working toward center). Cylinder head bolts are TTY and must be discarded. Carefully lift cylinder heads off block using pry points only at designated locations. Place heads on clean surface with valves facing up. Remove and discard head gaskets.

Push pistons up into cylinders and cap rod bolts with rubber hose to protect crankshaft journals.
