Parts
- H16 fog light bulb (5202 or PS24WFF equivalent) × 1 — GM 13519156 or equivalent H16/5202
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and apply parking brake
- Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
- Turn off fog lights and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes
- Optional: Raise front of vehicle with jack and support on jack stands for easier access, or turn front wheels fully to access from wheel well
Procedure
- 1Access fog light assemblyFrom underneath the front bumper or through the wheel well, locate the fog light housing on the side requiring bulb replacement. The fog light assembly is mounted in the lower front bumper near the outer edge.
- 2Disconnect electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector at the rear of the fog light housing. Press the release tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect it from the bulb socket. If connector is difficult to reach, you may need to rotate the bulb socket first.
- 3Remove bulb socketGrasp the bulb socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it releases from the fog light housing. Pull the socket straight out of the housing.
- 4Remove old bulbThe H16 bulb is a twist-lock style. Grasp the bulb (not the socket) and rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn, then pull straight out from the socket. Inspect the socket for any corrosion or damage.
- 5Install new bulbWearing gloves to avoid touching the glass, align the tabs on the new H16 bulb with the slots in the socket. Insert the bulb fully into the socket and rotate clockwise 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Ensure the bulb is seated securely.
- 6Reinstall bulb socketInsert the bulb socket assembly back into the fog light housing, aligning the tabs with the slots. Push in fully and rotate clockwise 1/4 turn until it locks into position.
- 7Reconnect electrical connectorPush the electrical connector firmly onto the bulb socket until you hear or feel a click, indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is secure.
Reassembly
- If vehicle was raised, lower it safely from jack stands
- Remove wheel chocks
- Repeat procedure for opposite side fog light if needed
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position and activate fog lights using the headlight switch (fog lights typically require headlights or parking lights to be on)
- Verify the new fog light illuminates properly with correct beam pattern
- Check that the fog light indicator on the dash illuminates when fog lights are on
- Turn off fog lights and visually inspect for proper seating of bulb in housing
