Preparation

    Even after depressurization, residual fuel will drain from the line. Keep towels and drip pan positioned.

    Carefully pull the fuel rail straight up and away from the cylinder head. The rail feeds all four injectors on that bank, so it will lift with all injectors attached. Work the rail gently side-to-side if injectors are stuck in their bores. Once free, tilt the rail assembly to the side and rest it on a clean surface with all injectors still attached.
    Do not pry against fuel rail or injectors. Use only gentle rocking motion to break O-ring seal. Excessive force can damage injector tips or rail.

    Remove fuel injector retaining clip
    Locate the metal retaining clip that secures the faulty injector to the fuel rail. The clip slides over the injector body and locks into the rail. Use a small flathead screwdriver to carefully pry up the locking tab on the clip, then slide the clip off the injector. Inspect clip for damage; replace if bent or cracked.

    Remove faulty fuel injector
    Grasp the injector body firmly and pull straight out of the fuel rail socket. Use a gentle twisting motion if needed to break the upper O-ring seal. Once removed, immediately cap or cover the fuel rail opening to prevent debris entry. Remove and discard both O-rings from the old injector.

    Prepare new fuel injector
    Remove new injector from packaging. Lubricate both new O-rings (upper and lower) with clean engine oil or petroleum jelly. Install the upper O-ring into the groove on the injector body nearest the electrical connector. Install the lower O-ring into the groove nearest the injector tip. Ensure O-rings are seated properly in their grooves without twisting.
    ℹ️Use only clean engine oil or petroleum jelly as lubricant. Do not use silicone-based lubricants which can contaminate fuel system.

    Install new fuel injector
    Align the new injector with the fuel rail socket opening. The electrical connector should face outward for proper routing. Push the injector straight into the rail socket until it seats completely. Install the new retaining clip by sliding it over the injector body and pressing down until the locking tab clicks into the rail.

    Reinstall fuel rail assembly
    Inspect the lower injector O-ring bores in the intake manifold for debris and clean if necessary. Install new O-rings on the fuel rail connection if removed. Align all four injectors on the rail with their respective bores in the intake manifold. Press the rail straight down firmly until all injectors are fully seated in their bores. The rail should sit flush against the mounting surface.

    Install fuel rail bolts
    Install both fuel rail mounting bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Then torque both bolts in a cross pattern to specification using a torque wrench. Verify the rail is seated evenly and not cocked to one side.

    Reconnect electrical and fuel connections
    Reconnect the electrical connector to the new fuel injector by pushing straight down until it clicks. Reconnect any other injector connectors that were removed. Reassembly

  1. Reconnect negative battery cable
  2. Do not start engine yet - proceed to verification steps first

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position (without starting) for 5 seconds, then OFF. Repeat 3 times to prime fuel system and pressurize fuel rail
  • Inspect all fuel connections and new injector area for fuel leaks during priming cycles
  • Start engine and let idle. Check for leaks at fuel rail, fuel line connection, and around new injector
