Power Mirror Motor

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of a power mirror motor on a 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which involves removing the door trim panel and mirror assembly to access the failed motor.

• Door panel retaining clips (if damaged) × 1 — GM 11589292 or equivalent

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes to allow airbag system to discharge
3. Lower front window completely to access door panel upper fasteners
4. Protect door paint with masking tape along mirror mounting area if working on painted surfaces

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove door trim panel fasteners
   Remove the door handle trim bezel by pulling rearward to release clips. Remove two T30 Torx screws behind the bezel. Remove the small screw cover at the bottom of the door pull and remove the T30 screw underneath. Remove the T20 screw from the lower rear corner of the door panel.

   Detach door trim panel
   Using trim panel removal tools, carefully release the plastic retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Start at the bottom rear and work forward, then up the sides. Lift the panel upward to disengage the upper retaining tabs from the door frame, then pull panel away from door approximately 4 inches.

   Disconnect door panel electrical connectors
   Disconnect the electrical connectors for the power window switch, power lock switch, and any other door-mounted controls. Press release tabs while pulling connectors straight apart. Support the door panel and set it aside on a clean, protected surface.

   Access mirror mounting area
   Carefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier in the upper front corner of the door to expose the mirror mounting nuts and electrical connector. Only remove enough of the barrier to access the mirror - do not completely detach it from the door.

   Disconnect mirror electrical connector
   Locate the mirror electrical connector inside the door. Press the release tab and disconnect the mirror harness connector. If connector is corroded, spray with electrical contact cleaner and allow to dry before disconnecting.

   Remove mirror assembly mounting nuts
   Remove the three 10mm nuts securing the mirror assembly to the door. Support the mirror from the outside while removing the final nut to prevent it from falling. Carefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door and retrieve it through the door opening.

   Remove mirror motor from housing
   With mirror assembly on workbench, remove the mirror glass by gently prying at the lower edge to release the clips - use caution as glass can break. Once glass is removed, locate and remove the three screws securing the mirror motor to the housing. Note the orientation of the motor before removal.

   Install new mirror motor
   Position the new mirror motor in the mirror housing in the same orientation as the original. Install the three mounting screws and tighten securely. Reconnect the internal wiring connector between motor and mirror harness. Reinstall the mirror glass by aligning the mounting clips and pressing firmly until seated.

   Reinstall mirror assembly to door
   Feed the mirror electrical connector through the door opening. Position the mirror assembly against the door, aligning the three mounting studs with the holes in the door frame. Install the three 10mm mounting nuts and tighten in a star pattern to ensure even seating of the mirror gasket.

    Reconnect and test mirror operation
    Reconnect the mirror electrical connector inside the door. Temporarily reconnect the battery negative terminal and test mirror operation in all directions (up, down, left, right) and verify folding function if equipped. Test heated mirror function if equipped. Disconnect battery again before continuing.

    Reinstall vapor barrier and door panel
    Press the vapor barrier back into position ensuring all adhesive areas are sealed. Position door panel and reconnect all electrical connectors. Align upper tabs with door frame slots and press downward to engage. Press firmly around perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Reinstall all door panel screws and trim pieces in reverse order of removal.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated before testing switches to avoid panel rattle
2. Verify vapor barrier is properly sealed to prevent water intrusion and wind noise
3. Check that window operates freely without interference from door panel

Verification

• Reconnect battery negative terminal and verify mirror adjusts smoothly in all directions without binding or noise
• Test mirror fold function (if equipped) and verify it returns to proper position
• Test heated mirror function (if equipped) by running vehicle for 5 minutes with defroster on
• Verify all door panel switches and controls function properly
• Check for proper door panel fit and absence of rattles by closing door firmly
