Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Allow engine to cool completely if recently operated
- Disconnect negative battery cable to prevent electrical issues

- Locate the oil pressure sensor on the driver's side of the engine block, behind the alternator and near the oil filter housing
Procedure
- 1Access the oil pressure sensorPosition yourself under the driver's side of the vehicle. The oil pressure sensor is mounted on the engine block below the exhaust manifold. You may need to remove any skid plates or under-engine covers for better access. Use a flashlight to clearly identify the sensor and its electrical connector.
- 2Disconnect the electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector attached to the oil pressure sensor. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight off the sensor. - 3Position drain panPlace a drain pan directly beneath the oil pressure sensor. When the sensor is removed, residual oil from the engine block will drain out. Position the pan to catch approximately half a quart of oil.
- 4Remove the old oil pressure sensorUsing the oil pressure sensor socket (typically 1-1/16" or 27mm deep socket), loosen and remove the sensor by turning counterclockwise. Be prepared for oil to begin dripping immediately. Remove the sensor completely and allow oil to drain into the pan. Keep shop rags nearby to manage any spillage.
- 5Clean the mounting surfaceOnce oil has stopped dripping, clean the sensor mounting hole threads in the engine block using a wire brush or clean shop rag. Remove any old thread sealant, debris, or metal particles. Ensure the threads are clean and undamaged. Inspect the area for any signs of cracks or damage to the block.
- 6Prepare the new sensorApply a thin, even coating of thread sealant to the threads of the new oil pressure sensor. Do not apply sealant to the first 1-2 threads to prevent it from being pushed into the oil passage. Use only the specified GM thread sealant or equivalent to ensure proper sealing and prevent contamination.
- 7Install the new oil pressure sensorThread the new sensor into the engine block by hand, turning clockwise. Ensure it threads smoothly without cross-threading. Once hand-tight, use the oil pressure sensor socket and torque wrench to tighten to specification.
