Subwoofer

This procedure covers the removal and installation of a factory or aftermarket subwoofer in the rear cab area of a 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab.

• Subwoofer assembly (factory or aftermarket) × 1 — GM 22853463 (factory) or aftermarket equivalent
• Subwoofer mounting bracket (if not included) × 1 — Use OEM specification
• Trim panel clips (replacement) × 4 — GM 15733971 or equivalent
• Wiring harness adapter (if aftermarket) × 1 — Vehicle-specific adapter

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Turn ignition off and remove key from vehicle
3. Open driver door to maintain interior access after battery disconnect
4. Disconnect battery negative terminal to prevent electrical system damage
5. Move front seats fully forward for rear access clearance
6. Remove any items stored under rear seat or in rear footwell area

Procedure

   Remove rear seat bottom cushion
   Lift the front edge of the rear seat bottom cushion firmly upward to disengage the two front retention clips. Once front clips are released, pull the seat cushion forward and up to remove from the vehicle. Set aside in a clean area.

   Access subwoofer location
   Locate the subwoofer housing in the center of the rear cab wall, behind where the rear seat bottom was positioned. On Crew Cab models, this is mounted to the rear wall panel under the rear window. Identify the trim panel or cover that conceals the subwoofer mounting area.

   Remove rear trim panel
   Using the trim panel removal tool, carefully pry out the retaining clips securing the rear lower trim panel. Start at the bottom corners and work upward. There are typically 6-8 push-pin style clips. Once clips are released, pull the panel away from the rear wall to access the subwoofer mounting points. Disconnect any electrical connections for rear power outlets if equipped.

   Disconnect subwoofer electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector on the back of the subwoofer assembly. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off the subwoofer terminal. If equipped with a Bose system, there will be a dedicated harness connector. For aftermarket units, note wire colors and routing before disconnection.

   Remove subwoofer mounting fasteners
   Using a 10mm socket, remove the mounting bolts securing the subwoofer bracket to the rear cab wall. Factory installations typically use 4 bolts in a square pattern. Support the subwoofer with one hand while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling.

   Remove subwoofer assembly
   Carefully pull the subwoofer and bracket assembly away from the mounting surface. Guide the wiring through any routing clips or grommets. Inspect the mounting surface for damage or debris. Clean mounting surface with a clean cloth if installing new unit.

   Install new subwoofer assembly
   Position the new or replacement subwoofer assembly into the mounting location. Ensure the wiring connector is accessible and not pinched. Align the mounting bracket holes with the threaded inserts or mounting holes in the rear cab wall. If installing aftermarket unit, verify bracket compatibility and mounting pattern matches factory locations.

   Install mounting bolts
   Thread all four mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper thread engagement. Once all bolts are started, tighten in a cross pattern (opposite corners) to 42.0 Nm (31 lb-ft) using a torque wrench. This ensures even pressure distribution and prevents bracket warping.

   Connect subwoofer electrical connector
   Route the wiring harness to avoid pinch points and contact with sharp edges. Connect the electrical connector to the subwoofer terminal, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. For aftermarket installations, use the appropriate wiring adapter and verify polarity matches amplifier output (positive to positive, negative to negative).

    Test subwoofer operation
    Before reinstalling trim panels, reconnect the battery negative terminal and torque to specification. Turn the ignition to the ON position and test the audio system with bass-heavy content. Verify the subwoofer produces sound without distortion, rattling, or buzzing. Adjust amplifier gain settings if equipped.

    Reinstall rear trim panel
    Once operation is verified, disconnect the battery negative terminal again. Route any power outlet wiring through the trim panel and reconnect connectors. Position the trim panel against the rear wall and align all clip locations. Press firmly at each clip location until you hear or feel them snap into place. Replace any broken clips with new ones.

    Reinstall rear seat cushion
    Position the rear seat bottom cushion by inserting the rear hooks into their slots first. Push down and rearward until the rear hooks engage. Then press down firmly on the front edge until both front retention clips snap into place. Verify the seat is secure by pulling upward on the front edge.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all trim panel clips are fully seated and panel is flush with surrounding surfaces
2. Verify rear seat cushion is securely locked in place at all four mounting points
3. Reconnect battery negative terminal and torque to 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft)
4. Return front seats to normal positions
5. Check that no tools or parts were left in the rear cabin area

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON and verify no warning lights related to electrical system appear
• Play audio content with strong bass frequencies and verify subwoofer operates smoothly
• Listen for any rattles, buzzing, or abnormal sounds from the subwoofer or surrounding panels
• Test audio balance and fade controls to ensure subwoofer responds to adjustments
• Verify all trim panels are secure and seat cushion does not move when pushed
• For aftermarket installations, verify amplifier is not overheating during extended use
