Sunroof Switch

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the overhead console sunroof switch on a 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with factory sunroof.

• Sunroof switch assembly × 1 — GM 23461506 or equivalent
• Overhead console trim clips (if damaged) × 2 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
3. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes
4. Ensure sunroof is fully closed before beginning work

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove overhead console lens
   Using a plastic trim tool, gently pry down on the front edge of the overhead console lens near the dome lights. The lens is held by clips at the front and rear. Work carefully around the perimeter to release all clips without breaking them. Lower the lens enough to access the interior.

   Disconnect dome light connectors
   Locate the electrical connectors for the dome lights at the rear of the console housing. Press the release tabs and disconnect both dome light connectors. Allow the lens assembly to hang or set it aside on a protected surface.

   Access sunroof switch mounting
   With the lens removed, you will see the overhead console housing. The sunroof switch is integrated into the overhead console module, located near the reading/dome light cluster. Identify the switch module and its mounting points. Identify the switch module and its mounting points.

   Remove switch mounting screws
   Using a T15 Torx driver, remove the two screws securing the sunroof switch module to the overhead console housing. These screws are typically located on either side of the switch assembly. Keep screws in a safe location for reinstallation.

   Cover Screws14 Nm (10 lb-ft)

   Disconnect sunroof switch electrical connector
   Carefully pull the switch assembly down to expose the electrical connector on the back. Press the connector release tab (typically a gray or black tab on top of the connector) and pull the connector straight off the switch. If space is tight, use an electrical connector release tool to assist.

   Remove old sunroof switch
   Once disconnected, remove the old sunroof switch assembly completely from the overhead console. Inspect the mounting area and connector pins for any signs of corrosion or damage that may have contributed to switch failure.

   Install new sunroof switch
   Connect the electrical connector to the new sunroof switch assembly by aligning the connector and pressing firmly until you hear and feel a positive click. Ensure the locking tab engages fully. Position the switch into the overhead console housing.

   Secure switch with mounting screws
   Insert and hand-tighten both T15 Torx screws into the sunroof switch mounting locations. Tighten screws to specification using a torque-limiting driver if available, or snug firmly by hand without overtightening the plastic housing.

   Reconnect dome light connectors
   Reconnect both dome light electrical connectors to the overhead console lens assembly. Ensure each connector clicks into place and is fully seated.

    Reinstall overhead console lens
    Align the overhead console lens with the housing and press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retention clips. Start at the rear near the dome lights and work toward the front. Ensure the lens sits flush with no gaps.
11. 11

    Reconnect battery and initialize
    Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten to specification. Turn the ignition to ON position (engine off) to power up vehicle electronics.

    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

1. Verify all trim clips are properly engaged and the overhead console lens sits flush
2. Ensure no tools or parts were left in the overhead console area

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position and test sunroof switch operation in all positions (vent, open, close)
• Verify sunroof opens and closes smoothly without binding or unusual noise
• Test dome lights to ensure they were not affected by the repair
• Confirm overhead console lens is secure and all clips are properly engaged
• If sunroof requires relearn/initialization, cycle it fully open then fully closed three times to complete the process
