Preparation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes for airbag system to discharge
  2. Drain engine oil completely and remove oil filter
  3. Drain coolant from radiator and engine block drain plugs
  4. Remove engine cover and air intake assembly
  5. Remove drive belt and belt tensioner
  6. Support engine with appropriate support fixture from above
  7. Remove both valve covers and set aside with gaskets
  8. Position cylinder #1 to Top Dead Center (TDC) on compression stroke
  9. Remove radiator upper hose and coolant bypass hoses from timing cover
  10. Disconnect all electrical connectors from timing cover area including CKP sensor and CMP sensors
