Expert-verified. Personally reviewed and approved by OLP's master technicians (Chris Hackleman & Jeff Moore — 20+ years each). Always follow the vehicle's factory service information and torque specs.

This procedure performs a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) relearn to register tire sensor IDs to the vehicle's receiver module after tire rotation, sensor replacement, or when the TPMS warning light is illuminated.

Warnings

ℹ️TPMS sensors must be functioning and have sufficient battery life for relearn to succeed.
ℹ️Tire pressures must be set to placard specification before starting relearn procedure.
Do not attempt relearn with ignition off or vehicle may not enter relearn mode.

Tools required

TPMS relearn tool or J-46079Essential
Tire pressure gaugeEssential
Air compressor

Preparation

  1. Verify all four tires are inflated to the pressure specified on the driver door jamb placard (typically 35 PSI front and rear for this vehicle)
  2. Ensure vehicle is parked on level ground in a safe location
  3. Turn ignition to OFF position
  4. Locate TPMS sensors in all four tire valve stems to confirm they are present

Procedure

  1. 1
    Enter TPMS relearn mode
Turn the ignition to the ON/RUN position (engine off). Press and hold the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter's LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously until the horn sounds twice, indicating the vehicle has entered relearn mode. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display 'TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE'.
  2. 2
    Relearn left front sensor
Starting at the left front tire, place the TPMS relearn tool antenna against the tire sidewall near the valve stem. Activate the tool and hold until the horn sounds once, confirming the sensor has been learned. Wait for the horn chirp before proceeding to the next tire.
ℹ️If the horn does not sound within 30 seconds, reposition the tool and try again or replace the sensor battery.
  3. 3
    Relearn right front sensor
Move to the right front tire. Place the TPMS relearn tool antenna against the tire sidewall near the valve stem, activate the tool, and wait for a single horn chirp confirming the sensor has been learned.
  4. 4
    Relearn right rear sensor
Move to the right rear tire. Place the TPMS relearn tool antenna against the tire sidewall near the valve stem, activate the tool, and wait for a single horn chirp confirming the sensor has been learned.
  5. 5
    Relearn left rear sensor
Move to the left rear tire. Place the TPMS relearn tool antenna against the tire sidewall near the valve stem, activate the tool, and wait for a single horn chirp confirming the sensor has been learned.
  6. 6
    Complete relearn process
After the left rear sensor is learned and the horn chirps, wait approximately 5-10 seconds. The horn will sound twice indicating successful completion of the relearn procedure. The DIC message 'TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE' will disappear. Turn the ignition to OFF.
If the horn does not sound twice after the fourth sensor, the procedure has failed and must be restarted from step 1.
  7. 7
    Drive cycle verification
Drive the vehicle at speeds above 25 mph for at least 10 minutes to allow the TPMS system to verify all sensors and update the DIC display with individual tire pressures.

Verification

  • Confirm the TPMS warning light is off in the instrument cluster
  • Check the Driver Information Center displays individual tire pressures for all four tires
  • Verify no DTC codes are stored in the TPMS module using a scan tool
  • Confirm tire pressures match the door placard specification and adjust if necessary
