Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake
  2. Open hood and secure with prop rod
  3. Allow engine to cool if recently operated
  4. Disconnect negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during pump replacement
  5. Place shop towels or drain pan beneath reservoir area to catch draining fluid

    Access washer fluid reservoir
    Locate the washer fluid reservoir on the driver side of the engine compartment, mounted to the inner fender well. The reservoir is a translucent white or blue plastic tank with a black cap.

    Disconnect electrical connector
    Locate the electrical connector on the washer pump at the bottom of the reservoir. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off the pump terminals. Do not pull on the wires themselves.

    Disconnect washer hoses
    Identify the outlet hose(s) connected to the washer pump. Using pliers, compress the hose clamp and slide it back on the hose. Pull the hose straight off the pump outlet. Some fluid will drain from the hose, so position towels to catch spillage. If equipped with rear washer, disconnect both front and rear hoses.
    Washer fluid will drain from hoses. Keep towels ready and avoid getting fluid on painted surfaces.

    Remove washer pump from reservoir
    The pump is held in the reservoir by a rubber grommet. Firmly grasp the pump body and pull straight out with a twisting motion to break the grommet seal. The pump will come out with the grommet attached. Expect additional washer fluid to drain from the opening.

    Remove grommet from old pump
    Remove the rubber grommet from the old pump by pulling it off. Inspect the grommet for cracks, tears, or hardening. If damaged, replace with new grommet. Clean the grommet if reusing.

    Install grommet on new pump
    Slide the rubber grommet onto the inlet of the new washer pump, ensuring it is fully seated in the pump groove. The grommet should sit flush against the pump mounting flange.

    Install new pump into reservoir
    Align the new pump with the mounting hole in the bottom of the reservoir. Push the pump firmly into the reservoir opening with a twisting motion until the grommet is fully seated and the pump is flush with the reservoir bottom. Ensure the pump outlet faces the correct direction for hose routing.

    Reconnect washer hoses
    Push the washer hose(s) onto the pump outlet(s) until fully seated. Slide the hose clamp(s) back into position over the connection point. Ensure hoses are routed properly without kinks or sharp bends.

    Reconnect electrical connector
    Push the electrical connector onto the pump terminals until the locking tab clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is secure.

    Reconnect battery and refill reservoir
    Reconnect the negative battery cable and torque to specification. Fill the washer fluid reservoir with fresh windshield washer fluid to the full line, approximately 3.5 quarts.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and locked in place
  2. Verify all hoses are properly connected with clamps in position
  3. Confirm battery cable is torqued to 6.0 Nm (4.0 lb-ft) - do not overtighten
  4. Wipe up any spilled washer fluid from engine compartment and painted surfaces

  • Activate windshield washer and verify fluid sprays properly from all nozzles
  • Check for leaks around pump connections and hose fittings while washer is running
  • Verify pump operates quietly without unusual grinding or buzzing noises

  • Check reservoir fluid level and top off if needed after testing
