This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the factory audio amplifier located behind the right kick panel in 1994-2007 Dodge Ram 2500 trucks equipped with premium sound systems.

Preparation

   The amplifier location varies by configuration and is commonly mounted behind the passenger-side kick panel or lower dash trim. It is a rectangular metal box with multiple wire harness connectors.    Locate the ground wire attached to the amplifier or mounting bracket.    Remove amplifier mounting bolts
   Using a 10mm socket, remove the mounting bolts securing the amplifier to the firewall or mounting bracket. Typical installations use 2-4 bolts. Support the amplifier with one hand while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling.

   Remove amplifier from vehicle
   Carefully maneuver the amplifier out from behind the dash area. The space may be tight - angle the amplifier as needed to clear surrounding components. Inspect the mounting bracket for damage or corrosion and replace if necessary.

   Prepare new amplifier for installation
   If the mounting bracket is separate from the amplifier, transfer it from the old unit to the new one. Ensure all mounting holes align properly. Verify the new amplifier part number matches the original or is confirmed compatible with your vehicle's audio system.

   Position the new amplifier in the mounting location, aligning mounting holes with the firewall or bracket. Thread mounting bolts in by hand first to ensure proper alignment.     Reconnect ground connection
    Attach the ground wire to the amplifier or mounting bracket. Ensure the contact surface on both the terminal and mounting point are clean and free of paint or corrosion. Tighten the ground strap bolt to specification using a torque wrench.

    Reconnect wire harnesses
    Connect each wire harness to the amplifier, ensuring connectors are fully seated until you hear or feel a positive click. Gently tug on each connector to verify it is locked in place. Double-check that all connectors are attached to the correct ports.

    Reconnect battery and test
    Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten the clamp bolt securely (typically snug, do not overtighten the lead terminal). Turn the ignition to the ACC or RUN position and test the audio system. Check all speakers for proper function, balance, and fade operation. Verify the amplifier is powering on (LED indicator if equipped).

    Reinstall kick panel
    Once audio system operation is confirmed, align the kick panel with the mounting clips and press firmly into place until all clips engage. Start at the top and work downward, ensuring even seating along all edges.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all wire harness connectors are fully seated and locked
2. Verify ground connection is tight and contact surfaces are clean
3. Confirm kick panel is securely fastened with all clips engaged
4. Test audio system functionality before considering job complete

Verification

• Turn ignition to ACC position and power on radio/audio system
• Test all speakers individually using balance and fade controls to verify proper amplifier output
• Adjust volume through full range to check for distortion or cutout issues
• Test any subwoofer if equipped to ensure low frequency amplification is working
• Verify no warning lights or messages appear on instrument cluster related to audio system
• Check that amplifier does not produce excessive heat during operation (some warmth is normal)
• Confirm kick panel is secure and does not rattle during test drive
