Heated Seat Module

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the heated seat module located under the driver or passenger seat on 1994-2007 Dodge Ram 2500 trucks equipped with factory heated seats.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system capacitors to discharge
3. Move seat to full forward position for access to rear mounting bolts
4. Verify which seat has the faulty module by testing heated seat switches

Procedure

   Remove seat track front mounting bolts
   Locate the two front seat track mounting bolts at the base of the seat tracks. Remove both bolts using the appropriate socket (typically 15mm or 18mm for seat track mounting bolts - verify size for your vehicle). These bolts secure the front of the seat tracks to the floor pan.

   Remove seat track rear mounting bolts
   Slide seat to full rearward position. Locate and remove the two rear seat track mounting bolts using the appropriate socket (typically 15mm or 18mm - verify size for your vehicle). Support the seat weight as you remove the final bolt.

   Disconnect seat electrical connectors
   Carefully tilt seat backward to access underside. Locate all electrical connectors including heated seat power connector, seat position sensor (if equipped), and any airbag connectors. Press release tabs and disconnect all connectors. Note connector positions for reassembly. If equipped with seat-mounted side airbags (later model years), airbag connectors have yellow locking tabs - ensure battery has been disconnected for at least 2 minutes before handling.

   Remove seat from vehicle
   With all electrical connections disconnected, carefully lift seat assembly out of vehicle. Seat weighs approximately 50-80 lbs depending on configuration. Place seat upside down on padded work surface or clean blanket to access underside.

   Locate heated seat module
   With seat upside down, locate the heated seat module. It is typically mounted to the underside of the seat frame, near the center or toward the front. Module is a small rectangular box (approximately 3x4 inches) with a wiring harness connector and two wires leading to heating elements in seat cushion and backrest.

   Disconnect module electrical connections
   Disconnect the main wiring harness connector from the heated seat module by pressing the release tab. Disconnect the heating element connectors (typically two separate connectors for seat cushion and backrest elements). Label connections if necessary for correct reassembly.

   Remove module mounting hardware
   Remove the module mounting bolts securing the heated seat module to the seat frame bracket. Most applications use two or three bolts. Retain any brackets or spacers that may be present.

   Inspect mounting location and connections
   Inspect the module mounting bracket for damage or corrosion. Check ground connection point on seat frame and clean with wire brush if corroded. Inspect heating element connectors for signs of overheating, melting, or corrosion. Clean connector pins with electrical contact cleaner if needed.

   Install new heated seat module
   Position new module in mounting location, ensuring any ground contact points are clean and making proper contact. Install module mounting bolts and torque to specification. Ensure module is securely mounted and not contacting any moving seat components.

    Reconnect module electrical connections
    Reconnect heating element connectors to new module, ensuring correct orientation. Apply small amount of dielectric grease to main harness connector pins and reconnect to module. Verify all connections are fully seated with locking tabs engaged.

    Reinstall seat in vehicle
    Carefully lift seat and position over mounting points in vehicle floor. Align seat tracks with mounting holes. Start all four mounting bolts by hand before tightening any. Torque front mounting bolts first, then rear mounting bolts to specification in a cross pattern.

    Reconnect vehicle electrical connections
    Reconnect all seat electrical connectors including heated seat power connector and any airbag or sensor connectors. Ensure all connectors are fully seated and locking tabs engaged. Verify no wires are pinched between seat tracks and floor.

    Reconnect battery and test system
    Reconnect the negative battery terminal(s) (this diesel truck has dual batteries) and torque the battery terminal clamp bolt to approximately 5-7 ft-lbs (verify specification for your vehicle). Turn ignition to ON position (do not start engine). Test heated seat operation by activating heated seat switch and verifying indicator light illuminates. Allow 2-3 minutes and feel seat cushion and backrest for warmth.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all seat mounting bolts are torqued to specification - loose seat mounts are a safety hazard
2. Verify seat slides freely on tracks through full range of motion after installation
3. Test all seat functions including recline, height adjustment (if equipped), and heated seat operation
4. Check that airbag warning light is not illuminated after reconnecting battery - this indicates proper airbag connector installation

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position and activate heated seat switch - indicator light should illuminate immediately
• After 2-3 minutes of operation, seat cushion and backrest should be noticeably warm to the touch
• Cycle heated seat through all heat settings (if multi-level) and verify each setting produces appropriate heat level
• Verify no airbag warning lights are illuminated on instrument cluster
• Slide seat forward and rearward through full range to verify no interference with wiring or module
• After test drive, verify seat mounting bolts remain tight and seat does not move on tracks during acceleration or braking
