Sun Visor

This procedure covers the removal and installation of the sun visor on a 1994-2007 Dodge Ram 2500 with 5.9L Cummins diesel engine.

• Sun visor assembly (driver or passenger side) × 1 — Use OEM specification
• Sun visor mounting screws × 2 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
2. If visor has vanity mirror with lighting, disconnect battery negative terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system to discharge
3. Position visor in the down position for easiest access to mounting hardware

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove visor mounting cover
   Carefully pry off the decorative cover at the visor mounting bracket using a flat blade trim tool or small screwdriver. The cover snaps into place and should release with gentle pressure. Set cover aside for reinstallation.

   Disconnect electrical connector (if equipped)
   If the visor is equipped with vanity mirror lighting or other electrical features, locate the wiring connector behind the mounting bracket. Press the release tab and carefully pull the connector apart. Allow the wiring to hang free from the headliner.

   Remove visor mounting screws
   Using a Phillips head screwdriver, remove the two mounting screws securing the visor bracket to the headliner. These screws thread into metal clips embedded in the headliner. Support the visor as you remove the second screw to prevent it from falling.

   Visor Mounting Screws3 Nm (2 lb-ft)

   Remove visor assembly
   Carefully pull the visor mounting bracket straight down and away from the headliner. If equipped with wiring, guide the wire harness through the opening in the headliner. Inspect the mounting area for any damaged clips or torn headliner material that may need repair before installing the new visor.

   Install new visor assembly
   Position the new visor assembly to the headliner, threading any wiring harness up through the headliner opening first. Align the mounting bracket with the screw holes in the headliner. Ensure the visor is oriented correctly with the pivot rod facing forward.

   Install and torque mounting screws
   Thread both visor mounting screws by hand to ensure proper thread engagement with the headliner clips. Tighten both screws using a torque wrench to specification. Do not overtighten as this can pull the mounting clips through the headliner material.

   Connect electrical connector (if equipped)
   If equipped with vanity mirror lighting, reconnect the electrical connector by aligning the connector halves and pressing together until you hear an audible click. Gently tug on the connection to verify it is fully seated.
8. 8

   Install mounting cover
   Snap the decorative mounting cover back into place over the visor bracket. Ensure all clips are fully engaged and the cover sits flush against the headliner.

Reassembly

1. If battery was disconnected, reconnect negative terminal and verify all electrical accessories function properly
2. Check that visor rotates smoothly on pivot rod and holds position when adjusted

Verification

• Rotate visor to multiple positions to verify secure mounting and smooth operation without binding
• If equipped with vanity mirror lights, test lighting function by opening mirror cover
• Verify visor holds position when flipped to side window and does not sag or fall
• Check that mounting cover is secure and sits flush with headliner
