Power Window Motor - Front

This procedure covers removal and replacement of the front power window motor on a 1994-2007 Dodge Ram 2500 with 5.9L Cummins diesel engine.

• Front power window motor × 1 — Use OEM specification or Mopar 68001903AA (driver) / 68001902AA (passenger)
• Door panel retaining clips × 1 — Replace any broken clips during removal

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Roll window fully down before beginning work (if motor still functions)
3. Disconnect negative battery cable using 10mm socket and allow 2 minutes for system capacitor discharge
4. Have masking tape ready to mark connector positions and glass location if needed

Procedure

   Remove door panel
   Remove Phillips screws from door pull handle and armrest. Use trim tool to carefully pry out power window/lock switch panel, then disconnect electrical connectors. Remove all perimeter screws securing door panel (typically 7-10 screws). Lift door panel upward to disengage retaining clips from door frame and remove panel from door.

   Remove moisture barrier
   Carefully peel back the plastic moisture barrier sheet from the door frame. Work slowly to avoid tearing the barrier. Only remove enough to access the window motor and regulator assembly, typically the lower half of the door. Tape the barrier up and out of the way if not fully removing.

   Support window glass
   If window is down, manually raise the glass to the full up position. Secure window glass in the up position using masking tape from the top of the glass to the door frame, or use a window wedge tool. This prevents the glass from dropping when the regulator is disconnected.

   Disconnect window motor electrical connector
   Locate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Depress the connector locking tab and pull the connector straight off the motor. Mark the connector orientation with tape if needed for reference during installation.

   Remove window regulator-to-glass mounting bolts
   Locate the two bolts securing the regulator arm to the bottom of the window glass channel. These are typically 10mm bolts accessible through access holes in the inner door frame. Remove both bolts and carefully separate the regulator from the glass. The glass should now be fully supported by your tape or wedge.

   Remove window motor mounting bolts
   Locate the three bolts securing the window motor to the regulator assembly or door frame (typically 8mm or 10mm hex-head; verify fastener type on your vehicle). These are typically arranged in a triangular pattern. Remove all three mounting bolts while supporting the motor assembly. Mounting bolts: approx. 6-9 ft-lbs / 8-12 Nm — verify against service manual.

   Remove window motor from door
   Carefully maneuver the window motor and attached regulator cable assembly out through the largest access hole in the door frame. You may need to rotate or angle the motor to clear the door reinforcements. On some models, the motor can be separated from the regulator by removing additional bolts.

   Install new window motor
   Position the new window motor into the door cavity, routing it through the access hole. Align the motor mounting holes with the door frame or regulator assembly mounting points. Ensure any regulator cables are properly routed and not kinked or binding.

   Install motor mounting bolts
   Install all three motor mounting bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Then torque the bolts to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even mounting pressure and proper motor alignment with the regulator mechanism.

    Reconnect regulator to window glass
    Align the regulator arm with the mounting points on the bottom of the window glass channel. Install the two mounting bolts finger-tight, then torque to specification. Ensure the regulator arm moves freely and is properly seated in the glass channel.

    Connect electrical connector and test
    Reconnect the window motor electrical connector ensuring it locks into place. Reconnect the negative battery cable and torque to specification. Before reinstalling door panel, test window operation through full up and down travel multiple times to verify proper motor function and smooth operation without binding.

    Reinstall moisture barrier and door panel
    Remove window support tape or wedge. Carefully reposition the moisture barrier, ensuring it seals completely around the perimeter. Align door panel with mounting points and press firmly to engage retaining clips. Install all perimeter screws. Reconnect power window/lock switch connectors and install switch panel. Install armrest and door pull screws.

Reassembly

1. Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
2. Ensure moisture barrier is properly sealed to prevent water intrusion
3. Replace any broken door panel clips before installation
4. Test window operation before final door panel installation

Verification

• Test window operation through full up and down travel at least 5 times
• Verify window moves smoothly without hesitation, binding, or unusual noise
• Check that window seats properly in the full up position against weatherstrip
• Confirm all door panel fasteners are secure and panel does not rattle
• Verify power window switch operates correctly with proper electrical connection
• Check that auto-down feature functions if equipped (may require relearn procedure)
