Window Motor and Regulator - Front

Remove and replace the front window motor and regulator assembly on a 1994-2007 Dodge Ram 2500 with 5.9L Cummins diesel engine.

• Window regulator assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or Mopar 55076467AB (driver) / 55076466AB (passenger)
• Window motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or verify if included with regulator
• Door panel retaining clips × 1 — Replacement clips as needed
• Rivets or mounting bolts × 6 — 1/4 inch if converting from rivets to bolts

Preparation

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal to prevent window switch activation during repair
2. Open door fully and support in open position
3. Roll window up to approximately 6 inches from full up position for easier access
4. Place protective covering on door exterior to prevent scratching
5. Verify replacement regulator matches original mounting configuration

Procedure

   Remove door panel
   Remove window crank handle or switch bezel if equipped with power windows. Remove all visible screws from door panel perimeter using appropriate driver (Phillips or Torx depending on year/trim); check armrest, door handle bezel, and pull cup areas for hidden fasteners. Carefully pry door panel away from door frame using trim removal tools, starting at bottom corners and working upward. Disconnect all electrical connectors for switches and speakers. Lift panel up and away from door to disengage top retaining clips.

   Remove water shield
   Carefully peel back the plastic water shield/vapor barrier, starting at bottom corner. Only remove enough to access regulator mounting points and motor connector. Use masking tape to temporarily secure shield out of work area. Avoid tearing the shield as it provides critical moisture protection.

   Support window glass
   Position window glass approximately 6 inches from top of door frame. Use masking tape to secure glass to outer door frame, preventing it from falling when disconnected from regulator. Apply tape from glass to door frame in at least two locations across the top of the glass.

   Disconnect window motor
   Locate window motor electrical connector inside door cavity. Press release tab and disconnect connector from motor. If connector is corroded, spray with electrical contact cleaner and allow to dry before reconnecting new motor.

   Detach glass from regulator
   Locate the two bolts securing window glass to regulator lift channels (typically 10mm). These are accessed through holes in inner door frame. Remove both bolts and carefully separate glass from regulator mechanism. Ensure glass remains securely taped in up position.

   Remove regulator mounting fasteners
   OEM regulators are typically riveted to door frame with 4-6 rivets. Use power drill with appropriate bit to drill out rivet heads. Alternatively, if equipped with bolts, remove all regulator mounting bolts from door frame. Note exact position of regulator mounting points for reinstallation.

   Remove regulator and motor assembly
   Carefully maneuver regulator assembly through access opening in inner door frame. This requires tilting and rotating the assembly to navigate through opening. If motor is separate from regulator, remove motor mounting bolts first and extract motor separately.

   Install new regulator assembly
   If motor is separate, attach motor to new regulator before installation. Guide new regulator assembly through door opening, positioning it to align with original mounting holes. If converting from rivets to bolts, ensure bolt heads are on inside of door frame with nuts on regulator side.

   Secure regulator to door frame
   Install all regulator mounting bolts and tighten to specification. Ensure regulator sits flush against door frame at all mounting points. Verify regulator tracks are properly aligned and parallel before final tightening.

    Attach glass to regulator
    Remove tape securing glass in up position. Lower glass carefully onto regulator lift channels, aligning bolt holes. Insert and hand-tighten mounting bolts. Verify glass sits level in channels before torquing bolts to specification.

    Connect motor and test operation
    Verify glass-to-regulator mounting bolts are fully torqued before powering the motor. Connect electrical connector to window motor, ensuring positive engagement. Reconnect negative battery terminal. Test window operation through full range of motion (up and down) several times. Listen for unusual noises and verify smooth operation. Disconnect battery again before proceeding.

    Reinstall water shield and door panel
    Reposition water shield/vapor barrier, ensuring complete coverage and secure adhesion around all edges. Replace any damaged adhesive with butyl tape. Reconnect all electrical connectors to door panel switches and speakers. Position door panel top edge into retaining channel, then press panel firmly around perimeter to engage clips. Reinstall all door panel screws to specification.

Reassembly

1. Ensure water shield is completely sealed to prevent moisture intrusion into door cavity
2. Verify all door panel clips are fully engaged before installing screws
3. Test all door-mounted switches and speakers for proper operation

Verification

• Operate window through complete up and down cycle multiple times, verifying smooth operation without binding or hesitation
• Verify window seals properly against weatherstripping when fully closed
• Check that window stops at proper up and down positions without overtravel
• Listen for unusual noises during operation indicating misalignment
• Verify door panel is secure with no rattles or loose clips
