Fluids

  • Windshield washer fluid — 2 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level ground and ensure the engine is cool
  2. Open the hood and secure it in the raised position
  3. Place drain pan under the driver-side front corner of the engine bay beneath the washer reservoir location

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access the washer reservoir
Locate the washer fluid reservoir in the driver-side front corner of the engine bay. The reservoir is mounted near the inner fender. Note the routing of the washer hose and electrical connector before removal.
  2. 2
Disconnect the washer pump electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector on the washer pump at the bottom of the reservoir. Press the release tab and pull the connector straight off the pump terminals. Allow the connector to hang freely.
  3. 3
    Disconnect the washer fluid hose
Locate the rubber washer fluid hose connected to the pump outlet at the bottom of the reservoir. Use pliers to compress and slide the hose clamp away from the pump connection point. Pull the hose straight off the pump outlet. Direct any spilling fluid into the drain pan.
  4. 4
    Remove reservoir mounting fasteners
Remove the 2 mounting bolts securing the reservoir to the inner fender/radiator support bracket using a 10mm socket. Support the reservoir as you remove the final fastener to prevent it from falling.
  5. 5
    Remove the reservoir
Carefully lift the reservoir up and out of the engine bay. Tilt it as needed to prevent spilling remaining fluid. Pour any remaining washer fluid from the old reservoir into the drain pan for disposal or reuse if clean.
  6. 6
    Inspect the pump and grommet
If reusing the washer pump, inspect the rubber grommet seal where the pump mounts into the reservoir. Replace the grommet if it shows cracking, hardening, or damage. Check the pump screen for debris and clean if necessary.
  7. 7
    Install the new reservoir
Position the new reservoir into the mounting location in the driver-side front corner of the engine bay. Align the mounting holes with the bracket on the inner fender/radiator support. Install the 2 mounting bolts and tighten to secure the reservoir in place.

  8. 8
    Connect the washer fluid hose
Push the washer fluid hose firmly onto the pump outlet at the bottom of the reservoir until it seats completely. Slide the hose clamp back into position over the connection point to secure the hose. Verify the hose is routed without kinks or tight bends.
  9. 9
    Connect the pump electrical connector
Push the electrical connector firmly onto the washer pump terminals until it clicks into place. Tug gently on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
  10. 10
    Fill the reservoir
Fill the new reservoir with windshield washer fluid up to the reservoir's full mark. Do not overfill. Replace the reservoir cap and ensure it is sealed properly.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all electrical connections are secure and properly seated
  2. Confirm the washer hose is clamped and routed without kinks
  3. Ensure the reservoir cap is tight to prevent spillage

Verification

  • Start the vehicle and activate the windshield washer system
  • Verify fluid sprays from both windshield washer nozzles with adequate pressure
  • Check for leaks at the pump connection, hose connection, and reservoir body
  • Inspect the reservoir mounting bolts to ensure the reservoir is secure
  • Check the fluid level and top off if necessary
