Remove and replace the audio amplifier located in the trunk area of the 2005 Dodge Viper, including electrical disconnect and mounting hardware removal.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes

Procedure

   Using trim panel removal tools, carefully release the trim clips securing the trunk side panel. Start at the rear edge and work forward, applying even pressure to avoid breaking clips. The panel may have 6-8 clips along its perimeter. Once clips are released, pull the panel away from the body to expose the amplifier mounting area.

   Locate amplifier assembly
   With the trim panel removed, locate the amplifier unit mounted to the body structure. The amplifier is a rectangular metal box with multiple wire harness connectors on one end and mounting bolts securing it to the body bracket.

   Disconnect amplifier harness connectors
   Identify all electrical connectors attached to the amplifier. There are typically 2-3 multi-pin connectors. Press the release tab on each connector and pull straight away from the amplifier to disconnect. Note the position and orientation of each connector for reinstallation.

   Remove amplifier mounting bolts
   Using the correct socket (verify head size, commonly 8mm or 10mm) and extensions as needed for access, remove the mounting bolts securing the amplifier to its bracket. Confirm the exact bolt count against the 2005 Viper service manual before proceeding. Support the amplifier with one hand as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from dropping. Note: 3-4 bolts; torque per OEM service manual (typically low, under 10 Nm for small amplifier fasteners)

   Remove amplifier from vehicle
   Once all mounting bolts are removed and harnesses disconnected, carefully withdraw the amplifier from its mounting location. Maneuver it past any surrounding structure or wiring to remove it from the trunk area.

   Inspect mounting bracket and connectors
   Examine the mounting bracket for any damage, corrosion, or loose hardware. Inspect the wire harness connectors for bent pins, corrosion, or damage. Clean any corrosion from mounting surfaces using a wire brush if necessary. Verify the replacement amplifier matches the original in connector configuration and mounting hole pattern.

   Install replacement amplifier
   Position the new amplifier into the mounting bracket, aligning the mounting holes with the bracket. Thread in the mounting bolts hand-tight first to ensure proper alignment, then tighten all bolts securely to the torque specification listed in the 2005 Viper service manual (do not overtighten small-diameter fasteners).

   Reconnect electrical harness connectors
   Connect each harness connector to the amplifier in the correct positions noted during removal. Push each connector firmly until you hear or feel a positive click indicating the locking tab has engaged. Gently tug on each connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.

    Reinstall trunk side trim panel
    Position the trunk side trim panel back into place, aligning all trim clips with their respective holes in the body. Press firmly along all clip locations, starting from the front and working rearward, until each clip is fully seated and the panel is flush with surrounding trim.

    Reconnect battery and test system
    Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten to specification. Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off) and test the audio system operation. Check available speakers for proper output and verify no distortion.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked before closing panels
2. Verify all trim clips are properly engaged and panel gaps are uniform

4. Re-enter radio security code if required after battery reconnection

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON and verify audio system powers up without error codes
• Test all speakers at low, medium, and high volume to confirm amplifier output is clean and distortion-free
• Check that subwoofer (if equipped) is receiving signal and producing bass output
• Verify no rattles or vibrations from improperly seated trim panels
• Confirm battery terminal connection is secure and shows no signs of arcing or looseness
