Armrest

Remove and replace the center console armrest assembly on a 2005 Dodge Viper, including lid, hinge mechanism, and mounting hardware.

• Center console armrest assembly × 1 — Mopar 1BG13LXHAC or equivalent
• Armrest hinge pin clips (if damaged) × 2 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and ensure parking brake is engaged.
2. Remove ignition key and set aside.
3. Empty armrest storage compartment of any items.
4. Allow interior surfaces to cool if vehicle has been parked in direct sunlight to avoid burns from heated trim.

Procedure

   Open armrest and locate hinge fasteners
   Lift the armrest lid to its fully open position. Inspect the hinge area at the rear of the armrest where it connects to the console base. Inspect the hinge attachment method; verify the fastener type and location against the factory service manual before proceeding.

   Remove armrest lid from hinge assembly
   If replacing only the armrest lid: locate the hinge pin clips on each side of the hinge mechanism. Using a small flat blade or trim tool, carefully pry the retaining clips outward to release the hinge pins. Slide the armrest lid forward and lift away from the hinge brackets. If replacing the entire assembly including hinges, proceed to the next step.

   Remove hinge bracket fasteners
   Remove the hinge bracket fasteners securing each hinge bracket to the console base (verify exact count and Torx size against the factory service manual). Note the fastener engagement method (captured nut or threaded boss) as you remove them. Keep fasteners organized for reinstallation.

   Lift armrest assembly from console
   With all fasteners removed, lift the armrest assembly (lid and hinge brackets if still attached) straight up and away from the console. Check the console cavity for any dropped fasteners or debris before proceeding.

   Inspect mounting points and hardware
   Examine the console base mounting points for any damage to the captured nut inserts or threaded bosses. Inspect the hinge pin clips for cracks or deformation—replace if damaged. Check the new armrest assembly to ensure hinge pins move freely and the lid opens and closes smoothly before installation.

   Position new armrest assembly
   If installing a complete assembly with hinges pre-attached, align the hinge brackets with the mounting holes in the console base. If installing only a new lid, first install the hinge brackets: position each bracket over its mounting holes and start the T20 Torx fasteners by hand to ensure proper thread engagement.

   Secure hinge brackets to console
   Using a T20 Torx driver, tighten the 4 hinge bracket fasteners in a cross pattern (front left, rear right, front right, rear left) to ensure even seating. Tighten to a snug fit—these fasten into plastic or composite bosses and should be firm but not over-torqued. Confirm the exact torque specification against the factory service manual before final tightening.

   Install armrest lid onto hinges (if separate)
   If you removed only the lid in step 2, align the hinge receivers on the lid with the hinge pins on the installed brackets. Slide the lid rearward onto the pins until fully seated. Press the hinge pin retaining clips into place on both sides until they snap securely—you should hear an audible click on each side.

Reassembly

1. Verify armrest lid opens and closes smoothly through full range of motion without binding.
2. Check that hinge pin clips are fully seated and lid does not have lateral play.
3. Test armrest by applying moderate downward pressure with lid closed to confirm secure mounting.

Verification

• Open and close the armrest lid several times to confirm smooth operation and proper engagement of the hinge mechanism.
• With the lid closed, apply moderate downward pressure (as if resting an arm) to verify no excessive movement or creaking from the mounting points.
• Verify the lid latches or stays closed properly when released from the open position.
• Check that all fasteners are tight and no rattles are present when tapping the armrest.
