Floor Mat Hooks

This procedure installs or replaces floor mat retention hooks in the driver and passenger footwells of a 2005 Dodge Viper to secure factory or aftermarket floor mats.

Preparation

1. Remove all floor mats from the driver and passenger footwells.
2. Vacuum or clean the carpet in the installation area to remove debris and clearly identify existing hook locations or mounting points.
3. Inspect the carpet for existing hook mounting holes or factory anchor points, typically located on the transmission tunnel or floor hump area in front of the driver and passenger seats.

   Locate Factory Hook Mounting Points
   Identify the factory mounting location for the floor mat hook in the driver footwell. Consult the vehicle's factory service documentation to confirm whether the 2005 Viper uses a factory retention anchor, and its exact location, before proceeding. Check for an existing threaded insert, anchor point, or pre-drilled hole in the carpet backing. If replacing an existing hook, note its orientation and fastener type (typically a single screw or twist-lock anchor).

   Remove Old Hook (If Present)
   If an old or damaged hook is installed, remove it by unscrewing the fastener counterclockwise with a Phillips or Torx driver as applicable. Some factory hooks use a quarter-turn twist-lock mechanism; rotate counterclockwise and lift to remove. Retain the fastener if reusable and inspect the mounting point for damage.

   Install Driver Side Floor Mat Hook
   Position the new floor mat hook over the factory mounting point in the driver footwell. Align the hook base with any existing holes in the carpet. If using a screw-type fastener, thread the screw through the hook base and into the factory anchor or carpet backing, turning clockwise. Tighten securely by hand or with a driver until snug—do not overtighten, as this can strip the anchor or damage the carpet. If using a twist-lock anchor, insert the anchor post into the hole and rotate clockwise a quarter-turn until it locks into place.

   Locate Passenger Side Mounting Point
   Move to the passenger footwell and locate the factory mounting point for the passenger side floor mat hook. This is typically mirrored from the driver side location. Confirm the exact factory anchor location against the vehicle's service documentation. Check for an existing insert, anchor, or pre-drilled hole.

   Install Passenger Side Floor Mat Hook
   Position the new floor mat hook over the factory mounting point in the passenger footwell. Align and fasten using the same method as the driver side: thread and tighten the screw clockwise until snug, or insert and rotate a twist-lock anchor a quarter-turn clockwise to lock. Ensure the hook is firmly seated against the carpet.

   Test Hook Security
   Grasp each installed hook and attempt to pull upward and rotate. The hook should not move, twist, or lift from the carpet. If either hook feels loose, remove and reinstall with a new fastener or check that the anchor is fully engaged.

Reassembly

1. Reinstall floor mats, ensuring the mat grommets or retention holes align with the installed hooks.
2. Press mats firmly onto hooks to secure them in place.
3. Verify that mats lie flat and do not interfere with pedal travel or seat adjustment.

Verification

• Sit in the driver seat and operate the accelerator, brake, and clutch pedals through full travel to confirm the floor mat does not shift or obstruct pedal movement.
• Attempt to slide the mat forward by hand; the hook should prevent forward movement toward the pedals.
• Repeat the pedal and mat movement check for the passenger side to ensure the mat is secure and does not pose a hazard.
