Fog Light Bulb

Replace the fog light bulb(s) on a 2005 Dodge Viper by accessing the fog light assembly from the front bumper area and replacing the bulb without removing the entire assembly.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and apply parking brake
2. Turn off headlights and fog lights and allow bulbs to cool for at least 10 minutes
3. If desired for easier access, raise vehicle on jack stands or drive onto ramps to provide clearance to work from below
4. Turn front wheels fully to one side to improve access to the fog light on that side

Procedure

   Locate the fog light assembly
   From below the front bumper, locate the fog light assembly. The fog lights are mounted in the lower front bumper area, one on each side. The bulb is accessed by removing the fog light bezel/trim from the front of the assembly, or from behind the housing where clearance permits; consult the factory service manual for the exact access method on this vehicle.

   Access the bulb socket
   Reach behind the fog light housing and locate the bulb socket connected to the back of the fog light assembly. The socket has a wiring harness connector attached to it.

   Disconnect the wiring harness
   Press the release tab on the wiring harness connector and pull it straight off the bulb socket. Do not pull on the wires themselves.

   Remove the bulb socket
   Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull it straight out of the fog light housing. The socket and bulb will come out as an assembly.

   Remove the old bulb
   The H3 bulb is retained in the socket by a spring clip or wire retainer. Depress or release the retainer and pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Note the orientation of the bulb terminals for correct installation of the new bulb.

   Install the new bulb
   Using a clean cloth or gloves to avoid touching the glass, insert the new H3 bulb into the socket. Ensure the bulb terminals are properly seated and secure the retaining clip. Verify the bulb is firmly held in the socket.

   Reinstall the bulb socket
   Insert the bulb socket back into the fog light housing and rotate it clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. Ensure the socket is fully seated.

   Reconnect the wiring harness
   Push the wiring harness connector onto the bulb socket until it clicks into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully locked.

   Repeat for opposite side
   If replacing both fog light bulbs, repeat steps 2 through 8 for the other fog light.

Reassembly

1. No disassembly of additional components was required; fog light bulb replacement is complete after reconnecting the wiring harness
2. Lower vehicle from jack stands or ramps if it was raised for access

Verification

• Turn the ignition to the ON position and activate the fog lights using the fog light switch
• Visually confirm both fog lights illuminate with proper brightness and beam pattern
• Turn off fog lights and inspect the installation area to ensure no tools or parts were left behind
• Test fog lights during a short test drive to confirm proper operation
