Seat - Front

This procedure covers removal and installation of the front seats in a 2005 Dodge Viper, including seat belt buckle disconnection, electrical connector service, and proper torque of seat mounting bolts.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
2. Disconnect battery negative terminal and wait 2 minutes for airbag system capacitor discharge.
3. Move seat to full rearward position for access to front mounting bolts.
4. Move seat to full forward position for access to rear mounting bolts.
5. Photograph electrical connector routing and seat belt buckle orientation for reference during installation.

Procedure

   Disconnect Seat Belt Buckle
   Locate the seat belt buckle mounting bolt at the inboard side of the seat, near the seat base. Use the appropriate bit/socket (verify fastener type — commonly a metric hex or Torx) to remove the single buckle mounting bolt securing the seat belt buckle to the seat frame. Set the buckle aside, allowing it to hang freely on the seat belt webbing.

   Disconnect Electrical Connectors
   Reach under the seat and locate the electrical connectors for seat functions. The Viper front seats may have no electrical connectors, or in some configurations a single connector; verify the presence and type of any connectors before proceeding, as this model is not typically equipped with heated seats or seat-based occupant detection. Press the locking tab on each connector and pull straight apart. Route connectors away from mounting bolt access points.

   Remove Front Seat Mounting Bolts
   With the seat in full rearward position, locate the two front seat track mounting bolts. Use the appropriate bit/socket (verify fastener type against OEM documentation) and extension to remove both front mounting bolts. These bolts thread into captive nuts in the floor structure.

   Remove Rear Seat Mounting Bolts
   Slide the seat to full forward position. Locate the two rear seat track mounting bolts. Use a T50 Torx bit and extension to remove both rear mounting bolts. Support the seat to prevent it from tipping once the final bolt is removed.

   Remove Seat Assembly
   With all four mounting bolts removed, carefully lift the seat assembly upward and rearward to clear the seat tracks from the floor studs. Tilt the seat as needed to navigate it through the door opening without contacting the door sill, center console, or steering wheel. Place the seat on a clean, padded surface with the base facing up for inspection or service.

   Install Seat Assembly
   Position the replacement or serviced seat assembly near the door opening. Tilt and maneuver the seat through the door opening, aligning the seat track mounting holes with the four floor-mounted threaded inserts. Guide the seat into position, ensuring electrical connectors and seat belt buckle hardware remain clear of the seat base.

   Install and Torque Seat Mounting Bolts
   Thread all four seat mounting bolts by hand to prevent cross-threading. Start with the front bolts (seat in rearward position), then the rear bolts (seat in forward position). Once all four bolts are hand-started, torque each bolt to specification in a cross-pattern (front-left, rear-right, front-right, rear-left) to ensure even seating of the seat tracks to the floor. Note: Torque all four seat mounting bolts to the OEM-specified value (verify against 2005 Viper factory service manual — placeholder value pending confirmation) in a cross-pattern to ensure even seat track loading.

   Reconnect Electrical Connectors
   Route electrical connectors along their original paths, ensuring no pinching between seat frame and floor or seat tracks. Align each connector and press firmly until the locking tab clicks into place. Tug gently on each connector to verify secure engagement.

   Reinstall Seat Belt Buckle
   Position the seat belt buckle against the inboard seat frame mounting point, aligning the bolt hole. Install the T50 Torx buckle mounting bolt and torque to specification. Verify the buckle operates freely and the webbing is not twisted.

    Reconnect Battery and Test
    Reconnect the battery negative terminal. Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off) and verify that the airbag warning light completes its normal bulb check cycle and extinguishes, confirming no supplemental restraint system faults were introduced. If equipped, test heated seat operation. Operate seat adjusters through full range of motion to confirm no interference with floor structure or trim.

Reassembly

1. Torque all four seat mounting bolts to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft) in a cross-pattern to ensure even seat track loading.
2. Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked before testing seat functions.
3. Confirm seat belt buckle bolt is torqued to specification and buckle operates with normal effort.

Verification

• Grasp seat firmly and attempt to rock side-to-side and fore-aft; no movement should be detected at mounting points.
• Confirm airbag warning light extinguishes after ignition cycle, indicating proper electrical connection.
• Operate seat adjusters through full travel range in all directions without binding or unusual noise.
• Test seat belt buckle engagement and release for normal operation.
• Verify no gaps between seat track and floor mounting surface.
