Speaker - Dash

Remove and replace the dash-mounted speaker in a 2005 Dodge Viper by accessing the dashboard speaker grille and disconnecting the wiring harness.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
2. Disconnect battery negative terminal to de-energize electrical system and allow airbag system to discharge.
3. Wait minimum 2 minutes after battery disconnect before beginning work.
4. Identify which dash speaker requires replacement (driver or passenger side).

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove speaker grille cover
   Insert trim panel removal tool at the edge of the dash speaker grille. Carefully pry upward to release the retaining clips securing the grille to the dashboard. Work around the perimeter until all clips are released, then lift the grille away from the dash.

   Remove speaker mounting fasteners
   Locate the Torx screws securing the speaker to the dashboard mounting bracket. Remove the fasteners holding the speaker in place (verify exact count and screw/Torx size against the 2005 Viper factory service manual). Set screws aside in a safe location.

   Extract speaker from dash
   Carefully pull the speaker forward out of the dashboard opening. Avoid yanking on the wiring harness. Tilt or rotate the speaker as needed to clear the dash opening.

   Disconnect speaker wiring harness
   Locate the wiring harness connector on the back of the speaker. Press the release tab on the connector and pull the connector straight off the speaker terminals. Remove the old speaker from the vehicle.

   Connect new speaker wiring
   Take the new speaker and connect the wiring harness to the speaker terminals. Ensure the connector seats fully and clicks into place. Verify polarity matches if connector is not keyed.

   Install new speaker into dash
   Position the new speaker into the dashboard opening, routing the wiring harness to avoid pinching. Align the speaker mounting holes with the threaded inserts in the dashboard bracket.

   Secure speaker with fasteners
   Install the speaker mounting screws through the speaker mounting holes (use the same count and type removed in Step 2). Tighten screws evenly in a cross pattern to avoid binding the speaker in the mount. Do not overtighten as this can distort the speaker frame or crack the mounting bracket.

   Reinstall speaker grille
   Position the speaker grille over the speaker opening, aligning the retaining clips with their receptacles in the dashboard. Press firmly around the perimeter until all clips fully engage and the grille sits flush with the dash surface.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect battery negative terminal after all work is complete.
2. Ensure all trim pieces are fully seated and aligned with surrounding dashboard components.

Verification

• Turn ignition to accessory position and test speaker function through the audio system.
• Verify speaker produces clear sound without distortion, rattling, or buzzing.
• Check that speaker grille is secure and does not rattle over rough surfaces.
• Confirm no warning lights are illuminated on the instrument cluster after battery reconnection.
