Power Window Motor - Front

Remove and replace the front power window motor in a 2005 Dodge Viper, requiring door panel removal and interior trim disassembly to access the window regulator assembly.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes for airbag system capacitor discharge
3. Roll window approximately halfway up for easiest access to motor mounting bolts
4. Prepare a clean workspace to lay door panel face-down without scratching

Procedure

   Remove door panel lower fasteners
   Using a T20 Torx driver, remove the Torx screws securing the bottom edge of the door panel. These are typically located along the lower door pocket area. Inspect for additional fasteners around the armrest pull handle area.

   Disconnect door handle and switch controls
   Using a panel tool, carefully pry the door handle trim bezel away from the panel to access the mechanical door release cable. Disconnect the cable by rotating the white plastic connector and sliding it from the handle mechanism. Disconnect the window and mirror switch electrical connector by pressing the locking tab and pulling straight up.

   Remove door panel retaining clips
   Insert a panel removal tool between the door panel and door frame at the edges. Work around the perimeter to release the push-pin clips securing the panel. Start from the bottom rear corner and work forward and upward. The Viper uses approximately 8-10 clips around the panel perimeter. Lift the panel upward to disengage it from the upper door frame channel.

   Remove moisture barrier access
   Carefully peel back the plastic moisture barrier sheet only in the area necessary to access the window motor. Use masking tape to secure the barrier out of the way. Do not fully remove the barrier unless replacement adhesive is available.

   Support window glass
   Using masking tape, secure the window glass to the door frame in its current position to prevent it from dropping when the regulator is disconnected. Alternatively, have an assistant hold the glass steady throughout motor removal.

   Disconnect window motor electrical connector
   Locate the power window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the connector locking tab and pull the connector straight off the motor terminals. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation.

   Remove window motor mounting bolts
   Using a 10mm socket with extension, remove the 3 bolts securing the window motor to the regulator assembly. The motor is mounted to the regulator mechanism and can be separated once these fasteners are removed. Support the motor as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from falling into the door cavity.

   Remove window motor from door
   Carefully maneuver the window motor out through the door service opening. The motor may need to be tilted or rotated to clear the door frame and internal bracing. Take note of the motor orientation and gear engagement with the regulator for installation reference.

   Install new window motor
   Position the new window motor into the door cavity and align it with the regulator assembly mounting points. Ensure the motor gear properly engages with the regulator mechanism before installing fasteners. The motor should seat flush against the regulator mounting surface.

    Secure motor and reconnect electrical
    Install the 3 mounting bolts and torque to specification. Reconnect the electrical connector to the motor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Remove tape supporting the window glass.

    Test window operation before final assembly
    Reconnect the negative battery cable temporarily. Turn ignition to RUN position and test window operation through full up and down travel. Verify smooth operation with no binding or unusual noise. The 2005 Viper uses standard manual power windows and does not require any window initialization procedure. Simply verify the window travels fully up and down smoothly. Disconnect battery again for final assembly.

    Reinstall moisture barrier and door panel
    Press the moisture barrier back into place, ensuring good adhesion around all edges. Align the door panel with the upper door frame channel and slide into position. Press firmly around the perimeter to engage all push-pin clips. Reconnect the door handle cable and window/mirror switch connector. Install all Torx screws and torque to specification.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated before testing to avoid rattles
2. Verify door handle operates smoothly and fully latches before closing door
3. Check that no wiring is pinched between door panel and frame

Verification

• Reconnect battery and test window operation through full travel in both directions
• Verify window auto-up and auto-down functions work correctly if equipped
• Check for smooth, quiet operation with no hesitation or binding
• Inspect door panel fitment and ensure all clips are secure with no gaps
• Test door handle operation and all switches function properly
