Fix: The 7-bolt 4G63 crank literally walks forward in the block due to inadequate thrust bearing design. Only real fix is engine-out crank replacement with upgraded thrust bearings and ARP main studs. 12-16 labor hours for full teardown, machine work, and reassembly. Some owners band-aid it with an aftermarket thrust button kit (3-4 hours) but it's temporary.

Fix: The viscous coupling in the transfer case fails, requiring full replacement (used units common since new ones are NLA). Automatics suffer from weak internal components and cooler line failures. Fix: The TD04 or 16G turbo oil seals fail, or the compressor wheel kisses the housing from bearing wear. Often caused by oil starvation from clogged oil feed lines or neglected oil changes. Turbo replacement: 4-6 hours including manifold removal and coolant lines. Most owners upgrade to larger 16G or aftermarket at this point. OEM turbos are NLA, remanufactured units common.

Fix: NHTSA recalled these twice for ball joint failures that can cause wheel separation. Even post-recall cars develop worn joints. Fix: The rubber isolation ring in the balancer deteriorates and the outer ring separates or wobbles. Can damage crank nose threads or timing belt if it grenades. Replacement is 2-3 hours (timing belt service access). Always replace with quality unit (Fluidampr or OEM), cheap ones fail quickly. Do timing belt, water pump, and all seals at same time since you're there anyway.
