Amplifier

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the Sony amplifier located under the passenger seat in 2011-2014 Ford F-150 trucks equipped with the premium audio system.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Turn ignition off and remove key
3. Move passenger seat fully forward using seat controls to maximize rear access
4. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for system discharge
5. Gather all tools and new amplifier if replacing

Procedure

1. 1

   Access amplifier location
   The amplifier is mounted to the floor under the passenger seat toward the rear. Kneel or position yourself to access the underside of the seat from the rear passenger area. Use a flashlight to locate the black metal amplifier box mounted to the floor pan.

   Disconnect amplifier wiring harnesses
   Locate the two large multi-pin connectors on the amplifier. Press the locking tab on each connector and pull straight back to disconnect. The connectors are keyed and can only fit one way. Note the orientation for reinstallation.
   ⚠Do not pull on wires - only pull on the connector body to avoid damaging the harness.

   Disconnect ground wire
   Locate the black ground wire bolted to the amplifier housing. Use an 8mm socket to remove the ground bolt and disconnect the ground strap from the amplifier body.

   Ground Bolt17 Nm (13 lb-ft)

   Remove amplifier mounting bolts
   The amplifier is secured to the floor with four 10mm mounting bolts, one at each corner of the unit. Use a 10mm socket to remove all four bolts. Support the amplifier while removing the last bolt to prevent it from falling.

   Remove amplifier from vehicle
   Carefully slide the amplifier out from under the seat. Maneuver it to avoid snagging any wiring. Inspect the amplifier mounting location for any debris, moisture, or corrosion. Clean the mounting area if necessary.

   Inspect wiring and connectors
   With the amplifier removed, inspect both wiring harness connectors for corrosion, bent pins, or damage. Check the ground wire connection point on the floor for corrosion. Clean contact surfaces with electrical contact cleaner if needed. Verify the new or repaired amplifier part number matches the original.

   Position new amplifier
   Position the replacement amplifier under the passenger seat, aligning the four mounting holes with the threaded inserts in the floor pan. Ensure no wiring is pinched beneath the amplifier housing.

   Install mounting bolts
   Thread all four 10mm mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment. Tighten bolts in a cross pattern (front left, rear right, front right, rear left) to the specified torque using a torque wrench.

   Reconnect ground wire
   Position the ground strap to the amplifier mounting point. Ensure the contact surface is clean and free of paint or corrosion. Install the ground bolt and torque to specification.
   ℹ️Proper grounding is critical for amplifier operation and audio quality. Ensure metal-to-metal contact.

    Reconnect wiring harnesses
    Connect both multi-pin harness connectors to the amplifier. Push firmly until you hear and feel each connector lock into place. Verify both locking tabs are fully engaged. Gently tug on each connector to confirm proper seating.

    Reconnect battery
    Reconnect the negative battery terminal and torque the terminal bolt to specification. Do not overtighten as this can damage the battery post or terminal.

    Test audio system operation
    Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine. Turn on the radio and test all speakers at various volume levels. Test all audio sources (AM, FM, satellite if equipped, auxiliary input). Verify subwoofer operation if equipped. Check for distortion, speaker dropout, or other abnormal operation.

Reassembly

1. Return passenger seat to desired position using seat controls
2. Reset radio presets and clock as needed
3. If amplifier was replaced due to moisture intrusion, investigate source of water leak and repair

Verification

• Verify all speakers produce clear sound without distortion at low, medium, and high volumes
• Confirm no warning lights or audio system fault messages appear on instrument cluster
• Test fade and balance controls to verify all speakers are functioning
• Verify amplifier mounting is secure with no rattles or vibrations when audio is playing
• Check that seat movement does not contact or interfere with amplifier or wiring
