Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and apply parking brake

- Remove driver side front wheel
- Allow front differential to cool if vehicle was recently operated
Procedure

Check for proper movement, wear, or damage. The collar should move freely when pushed with a pick tool. If excessive wear or binding is detected, further disassembly may be required.
- 8Prepare new actuator for installationInstall the new gasket or O-ring onto the new 4WD actuator. Lightly lubricate the O-ring with clean gear oil to prevent damage during installation. Compare the new actuator to the old unit to verify correct replacement part.
- 9Install new 4WD actuatorAlign the new actuator shaft with the shift fork inside the differential housing. - 14Reconnect electrical connectorReconnect the electrical connector to the 4WD actuator. Ensure the connector locks securely with an audible click. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is properly seated.
- 15Reinstall wheel and lower vehicleReinstall any splash shields or skid plates that were removed. Reinstall the driver side front wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts. Lower the vehicle until the tire just contacts the ground. Torque the wheel lug nuts to specification in a star pattern. Fully lower the vehicle and remove jack stands. Reassembly
- Double-check all fasteners are torqued to specification
- Verify no tools or parts were left in the work area
- Inspect for any fluid leaks around the differential cover and actuator mounting area

Verification
- Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature
- With the vehicle stationary and engine running, shift the transfer case into 4WD High and verify the 4WD indicator light illuminates on the dash
- Listen for any unusual noises from the front differential during engagement
- Shift back to 2WD and verify the 4WD indicator light turns off
- Test drive the vehicle in a safe area, engaging and disengaging 4WD multiple times to confirm proper operation
- After test drive, recheck the front differential fluid level and inspect for leaks
- If available, use a scan tool to verify no 4WD system fault codes are present
