Parts
- Side mirror assembly (driver or passenger) × 1 — Use OEM specification for heated/power/signal features
- Door panel trim clips (if broken) × 2 — Ford OEM door panel clips
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and ensure ignition is off with key removed
- Roll down the window slightly to provide access if working around door frame
- If replacing a damaged mirror, photograph the electrical connector orientation before disconnection
- Gather all tools and replacement parts before beginning
Procedure
- 1Access interior door panel trimOpen the door fully. Locate the triangular trim panel at the front upper corner of the door, where the mirror mounts to the door frame. This panel is on the interior side of the door.
- 2Remove interior mirror trim panelUsing the panel removal tool, carefully pry the triangular trim panel away from the door frame starting at the bottom edge. Work around the perimeter to release all retaining clips. Set the panel aside carefully to avoid breaking the clips.
- 3Disconnect mirror electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector behind the trim panel that supplies power to the mirror adjustment motor, heater (if equipped), and turn signal (if equipped). Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight out to disconnect. Do not pull on the wires themselves.
- 4Remove mirror mounting boltsLocate the three 10mm mounting bolts that secure the mirror assembly to the door frame. These bolts are accessible from inside the door once the trim panel is removed. Using the 10mm socket and ratchet, remove all three bolts completely. Support the mirror from the outside with your other hand to prevent it from falling.
- 5Remove mirror assembly from doorCarefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door frame while feeding the electrical connector and wiring harness through the mounting hole in the door. Remove the mirror completely and set aside. Inspect the door frame mounting surface for any damage or corrosion.
- 6Prepare new mirror assemblyUnpack the new mirror assembly and verify it matches the original in terms of features (power adjustment, heating, turn signals, puddle lights). Feed the electrical connector through the mounting hole in the door frame from the outside, pulling it through to the interior side.
- 7Position mirror on door frameAlign the new mirror assembly with the three mounting holes on the door frame. Ensure the gasket or seal (if present) is properly seated against the door frame. Hold the mirror firmly in position while preparing to install the mounting bolts.
- 8Install mirror mounting boltsInsert all three 10mm mounting bolts through the door frame and thread them into the mirror assembly by hand. Once all three bolts are started, tighten them in a cross pattern to ensure even seating. Using a torque wrench, tighten the mounting bolts to 31.0 Nm (23 lb-ft). Verify the mirror is firmly seated against the door frame with no gaps.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect electrical connectorConnect the electrical connector to the mirror assembly, ensuring it clicks into place fully. Verify the locking tab is engaged. Gently tug on the connector to confirm it is secure.
- 10Reinstall interior trim panelPosition the triangular trim panel over the mounting area, aligning all retaining clips with their holes in the door frame. Press firmly around the perimeter of the panel until all clips snap into place. Ensure the panel is flush with the surrounding door trim.
Reassembly
- Ensure all three mounting bolts are torqued to specification and mirror is firmly attached
- Verify electrical connector is fully seated and locked
- Check that interior trim panel is securely clipped in place with no gaps
Verification
- Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off) and test mirror adjustment in all directions using the interior control switch
- If equipped with heated mirrors, activate the rear defrost and verify the mirror heats up within 2-3 minutes
- If equipped with turn signals, activate the turn signal and verify the mirror indicator lights function properly
- Visually inspect the mirror from outside to ensure it is properly aligned and seated flush against the door frame
- Gently attempt to move the mirror by hand to verify it is securely mounted with no excessive play
