- 3Locate and identify failed motorIdentify which motor has failed based on the non-functioning seat movement: fore/aft motor is typically mounted on the seat track assembly, recline motor is on the seatback hinge mechanism, height motors are on front and rear of seat cushion support. The motor will have an electrical connector and be mounted with bolts to the seat frame or actuator assembly.
- 4Disconnect motor electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector attached to the motor housing. Press the release tab on the connector and carefully pull the connector away from the motor. If connector is corroded or difficult to remove, spray with electrical contact cleaner and use needle nose pliers to assist with tab release. Inspect connector pins for damage or corrosion.

- 6Disengage motor from drive mechanismCarefully work the motor output gear away from the drive mechanism. For track motors, the output gear will mesh with a worm gear or drive cable. For recline motors, the output may have a sector gear engagement. Gently rotate and pull the motor to disengage without forcing. If resistance is encountered, verify all mounting bolts are removed.
- 7Remove failed motorOnce the motor gear is fully disengaged, remove the motor from the seat assembly. Inspect the mounting surface and drive mechanism for damage, debris, or excessive wear. Clean the mounting surface with a clean rag and inspect the drive gear mechanism to ensure it moves freely without binding.
- 8Prepare and install new motorCompare the new motor to the old motor to verify correct replacement. Check that the output gear type, mounting hole pattern, and electrical connector match. Position the new motor and align the output gear with the drive mechanism. Ensure any alignment pins or tabs properly engage with the seat frame.
