This procedure covers removal and replacement of the sunroof switch assembly located in the overhead console of a 2011-2014 Ford F-150 with 3.5L EcoBoost engine.

• Trim panel retaining clips (if damaged) × 4 — Ford trim clips

Preparation

1. Ensure the sunroof is in the fully closed position
2. Park the vehicle on level ground and turn off the ignition
3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for capacitor discharge
4. Gather all necessary tools and the replacement sunroof switch

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove overhead console lens cover
   Using a plastic trim tool, carefully pry the overhead console lens cover at the rear edge near the dome light. Work your way around the perimeter to release the retaining clips. The lens typically has 4-6 clips holding it in place. Pull down gently to remove the lens completely.

   Remove dome light assembly
   Locate the dome light housing within the overhead console. Press the tabs on either side of the dome light assembly and pull it downward to disconnect it from the console. Disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector apart. Set the dome light assembly aside.

   Remove overhead console mounting screws
   Locate the Phillips head screws securing the overhead console to the headliner. There are typically 2-3 screws visible once the lens is removed. Remove all mounting screws and set them aside in a safe location.

   Lower overhead console
   Carefully lower the overhead console from the headliner. You may need to tilt it at an angle to clear the surrounding headliner material. Do not pull forcefully as electrical connectors are still attached on the rear side of the console.
   ⚠Support the console with one hand while accessing connectors to prevent strain on wiring harnesses.

   Disconnect wiring harness connectors
   Locate all electrical connectors on the back of the overhead console. This typically includes connectors for the sunroof switch, dome lights, and any additional accessories (garage door opener, OnStar, etc.). Press the release tabs and carefully disconnect each connector. Note the position of each connector for reassembly.
   ℹ️Take a photo of connector positions before disconnection to ensure correct reassembly.

   Remove sunroof switch from console
   With the console removed from the vehicle, locate the sunroof switch assembly on the console base. The switch is typically held by small tabs or clips. Press the release tabs on the sides of the switch assembly and push it out from the front of the console. If equipped with screws, remove them first before releasing the switch.

   Disconnect sunroof switch connector
   Locate the electrical connector on the back of the sunroof switch. Press the connector release tab and pull the connector away from the switch assembly. Inspect the connector terminals for corrosion or damage. Clean if necessary with electrical contact cleaner.
   ℹ️Inspect connector pins for bent or damaged terminals which could cause intermittent operation.

   Install new sunroof switch
   Connect the electrical connector to the new sunroof switch by aligning the connector and pressing until it clicks into place. Insert the switch assembly into the overhead console housing, ensuring the tabs engage properly. The switch should sit flush with the console surface. If equipped with mounting screws, tighten them securely but do not overtighten plastic threads.

   Reconnect overhead console wiring
   Reconnect all electrical connectors to the overhead console in their original positions. Ensure each connector clicks securely into place. Verify all connections are fully seated before proceeding.

    Reinstall overhead console
    Position the overhead console back into the headliner opening. Align the screw holes with the mounting points in the headliner frame. Install all mounting screws and tighten evenly. Do not overtighten as this may crack the plastic console housing.

    Reinstall dome light and lens cover
    Reconnect the dome light electrical connector and press the dome light assembly back into its mounting position until it clicks. Position the overhead console lens cover and press firmly around all edges to engage the retaining clips. Verify the lens is seated flush with the headliner.

    Reconnect battery and initialize sunroof
    Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten the terminal bolt to specification. Turn the ignition to the ON position. The sunroof may need to be initialized: press and hold the sunroof close button until the sunroof fully closes and you hear a click, then release and press again briefly to complete initialization.

    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

1. Ensure all trim clips are properly engaged and the overhead console lens sits flush with the headliner
2. Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated to prevent intermittent operation
3. Check that no wiring is pinched between the console and headliner during reinstallation

Verification

• Turn the ignition to ON and test the sunroof open function by pressing the sunroof switch - the sunroof should tilt or slide open smoothly
• Test the sunroof close function to verify proper operation in both directions
• Verify the sunroof vent position works correctly
• Test the automatic express open/close features if equipped
• Confirm the dome lights and any other overhead console functions still operate properly
• Check that the overhead console is securely mounted with no rattles or loose components
