Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
  3. Loosen front wheel lug nuts while vehicle is on ground (do not remove)
  4. Raise front of vehicle with floor jack at manufacturer-specified jacking points
  5. Support vehicle securely on jack stands at frame rails
  6. Remove both front wheels completely

    Inspect sway bar link condition
    Examine both front sway bar links for worn ball joints, torn boots, or damaged threads. Note the orientation of the link and any washers or sleeves between the link and mounting points. Take photos if needed for reference during reassembly.

    If fasteners show signs of corrosion, spray penetrating oil on both the upper nut (connecting to strut) and lower nut (connecting to sway bar) on each side. Allow 10-15 minutes for penetration before attempting removal.

    Remove driver side upper nut
    Locate the sway bar link connection to the strut assembly. Insert a 6mm Allen key into the hex socket at the top of the link shaft to prevent rotation. Using an 18mm wrench, remove the upper nut. Note the position of any washers or bushings.

    Remove driver side lower nut
    Locate the lower connection where the sway bar link attaches to the sway bar. Insert the 6mm Allen key into the bottom hex socket of the link shaft. Using an 18mm wrench, remove the lower nut. Support the link to prevent it from falling. Remove any washers or bushings and keep them organized.

    Remove driver side sway bar link
    Pull the sway bar link downward and away from the strut and sway bar. If the link is seized in the mounting points, carefully tap it with a rubber mallet to break it free. Clean the mounting areas on both the strut and sway bar using a wire brush.

    Install new driver side sway bar link
    Position the new sway bar link between the sway bar and strut. Ensure the link is oriented correctly with the ball joint studs facing the proper direction. Install any washers or bushings in the correct order as noted during disassembly. Thread both upper and lower nuts onto the studs by hand to prevent cross-threading.

    Torque driver side sway bar link fasteners
    Hold the link shaft with the 6mm Allen key to prevent rotation. Using a torque wrench and 18mm socket, tighten both the upper nut (to strut) and lower nut (to sway bar) to specification. Torque in two stages: first to 30 Nm, then to final specification.

    Position the new passenger side sway bar link and install both nuts by hand. Hold the shaft with the 6mm Allen key and torque both upper and lower nuts to specification using the same two-stage method as the driver side.

Reassembly

  1. Reinstall both front wheels and thread lug nuts by hand

  4. Completely lower vehicle and remove jack stands and floor jack
  5. Remove wheel chocks
