Warnings
⚠Allow headlights to cool completely before handling bulbs to prevent burns
ℹ️Avoid touching the glass portion of halogen bulbs with bare fingers as oil can cause premature failure
Tools required
Clean cloth or gloves
Parts
- Front turn signal bulb × 1 — 3157A or 3457A amber bulb
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and turn off ignition
- Allow headlight assembly to cool if vehicle was recently operated
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
Procedure
- 1Locate turn signal bulb socketFrom the engine bay, locate the turn signal bulb socket on the backside of the headlight assembly. The turn signal socket is typically positioned on the outboard side of the headlight housing, below the headlight bulb. Identify it by its amber/orange wiring harness.
- 2Remove bulb socketGrasp the turn signal bulb socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (about 90 degrees) until it releases from the headlight housing. Pull the socket straight out of the housing to remove it completely.
- 3Remove failed bulbWith the socket removed, grasp the old bulb and push it in slightly while rotating counterclockwise to release it from the bayonet-style socket. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Inspect the socket contacts for any corrosion or damage.
- 4Install new bulbUsing a clean cloth or wearing gloves, insert the new 3157A amber bulb into the socket. Push the bulb in slightly and rotate clockwise until it locks into place in the bayonet mount. Ensure the bulb is fully seated and secure in the socket.
- 5Reinstall bulb socketAlign the tabs on the bulb socket with the slots in the headlight housing. Insert the socket into the housing and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into position. Ensure the socket is fully seated and cannot be pulled out.
- 6Test turn signal operationTurn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to be running). Activate the turn signal for the side that was repaired and verify the front turn signal bulb flashes at the correct rate. Check that the dashboard indicator also flashes normally without rapid blinking.
Reassembly
- Close hood securely after verifying proper operation
- Dispose of old bulb properly according to local regulations
Verification
- Verify turn signal flashes at normal rate (approximately 60-90 flashes per minute)
- Confirm no rapid blinking which would indicate a poor connection or wrong bulb type
- Check that turn signal is visible from front and side of vehicle
- Verify dash indicator light functions properly without error messages
