Power Window Motor - Front

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of a front power window motor on a 2015-2020 Ford F-150, including door panel removal and window regulator access.

• Front power window motor × 1 — Use OEM specification
• Door panel clips (if damaged) × 1 — Ford door panel retainer kit

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes
3. Roll window to approximately mid-position for easier access (if still functional)
4. Lay out towels or blankets to protect removed door panel

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove door panel
   Remove the door pull handle cover using a panel tool. Remove two T30 Torx screws behind the handle. Pry out the power window/lock switch panel using a panel tool and disconnect the electrical connectors. Remove the T20 Torx screw behind the switch panel. Carefully pry the door panel away from the door starting at the bottom rear corner, working around the perimeter to release all retaining clips.

   Disconnect door panel harness
   Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors from the door panel including courtesy lamp and tweeter speaker if equipped. Lift the door panel up and away from the door frame to clear the window sill and set aside on a protected surface.

   Remove vapor barrier access
   Carefully peel back the lower portion of the plastic vapor barrier to access the window regulator and motor assembly. Only remove as much as necessary to access the motor mounting bolts. The barrier can be reused if not torn.

   Secure window glass
   Raise the window glass to the full up position. Use masking tape to secure the glass to the door frame, taping across the top of the glass to the exterior door frame. This prevents the glass from dropping when the regulator is disconnected.

   Disconnect window motor electrical connector
   Locate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the locking tab and disconnect the connector from the motor. Ensure the connector is moved away from the work area.

   Remove motor mounting bolts
   Locate the three 10mm mounting bolts securing the window motor to the regulator assembly. Remove all three bolts using a 10mm socket with extension. Support the motor as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from falling inside the door cavity.

   Remove window motor
   Carefully maneuver the window motor away from the regulator gear assembly. The motor may need to be rotated slightly to clear the regulator mechanism. Remove the motor through the large access hole in the door frame.

   Install new window motor
   Position the new window motor to align with the regulator gear assembly. Ensure the motor gear properly meshes with the regulator gear before attempting to install mounting bolts. Insert and hand-tighten all three mounting bolts, then torque to specification in a cross pattern.

   Reconnect electrical and test
   Reconnect the window motor electrical connector ensuring it clicks into place. Temporarily reconnect the negative battery terminal. Before reinstalling the door panel, test window operation through multiple full up and down cycles to confirm proper motor function and smooth operation. Disconnect battery again before continuing.

    Reinstall vapor barrier and door panel
    Press the vapor barrier back into place ensuring a complete seal. Reconnect all electrical connectors to the door panel components. Position the door panel over the window sill and align with the door frame. Press firmly around the perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Reinstall all Torx screws in reverse order of removal. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
    Torque spec

    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

1. Ensure all door panel clips are fully seated before testing window operation
2. Verify vapor barrier is properly sealed to prevent moisture intrusion
3. Check that all switches and controls are properly seated and functional

Verification

• Test window operation through multiple full up and down cycles
• Verify window moves smoothly without binding or unusual noises
• Confirm window auto-up and auto-down features function properly if equipped
• Check that window seals properly at the top position with no gaps
• Verify all door panel switches and controls operate correctly
• Inspect door panel fitment with even gaps around all edges
