Parts
- H10 fog light bulb × 1 — H10 halogen bulb (9145/9140)
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and apply parking brake
- Turn off ignition and remove key to ensure fog lights are off
- Allow fog lights to cool if recently used (minimum 10 minutes)
- Open hood for additional working clearance if needed
Procedure
- 1Access fog light assemblyFrom underneath the front bumper, locate the fog light assembly on the side requiring bulb replacement. You may need to lie on the ground or use a creeper for better access. The fog light housing is located in the lower front bumper fascia, inboard of the wheel well.
- 2Locate bulb socketReach behind the fog light assembly and locate the bulb socket at the rear of the housing. The socket is a round connector with the wiring harness attached. On some F-150 models, you may gain better access by turning the steering wheel fully to the opposite side and reaching through the front wheel well liner.
- 3Disconnect electrical connectorPress the release tab on the electrical connector and pull it straight back away from the bulb socket to disconnect. Do not pull on the wires themselves. If the connector is tight, gently wiggle while pulling to release it.
- 4Remove bulb socketRotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it releases from the fog light housing. Pull the socket straight out from the housing. The socket and bulb come out as a single assembly.
- 5Remove old bulbGrasp the old H10 bulb firmly at its base and pull it straight out from the socket. The bulb is held by friction and does not twist. If stubborn, gently rock the bulb side to side while pulling to release it.
- 6Install new bulbUsing clean gloves or holding the new H10 bulb by its plastic base, align the bulb tabs with the socket grooves and push it straight into the socket until it seats fully. Ensure the bulb is firmly seated and cannot be pulled out easily. Do not touch the glass portion of the bulb.
- 7Reinstall bulb socketInsert the bulb socket assembly back into the fog light housing, aligning the tabs on the socket with the slots in the housing. Push the socket in fully, then rotate it clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. The socket should be secure and not rotate freely.
- 8Reconnect electrical connectorPush the electrical connector back onto the bulb socket until you hear or feel it click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
Reassembly
- Ensure bulb socket is fully locked into fog light housing
- Verify electrical connector is securely attached and locked
- Close hood if opened during procedure
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position and activate fog lights using the headlight switch
- Verify both fog lights illuminate properly and with equal brightness
- Turn fog lights off and check that no warning lights appear on the instrument cluster
- Visually inspect from outside the vehicle to confirm proper fog light operation
