This procedure covers replacement of a single headlight bulb on a 2015-2020 Ford F-150 with 5.0L V8 engine, accessible from the engine bay without removing the entire headlight assembly.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
2. Allow headlights to cool if recently used
3. Open hood and secure with prop rod
4. Identify which headlight bulb needs replacement (low beam or high beam position)

Procedure

   Access headlight assembly
   Locate the headlight assembly from under the hood on the affected side. The headlight housing is positioned behind the grille with access from the engine bay. Remove any plastic cover or dust cap from the rear of the headlight housing by rotating counterclockwise or pulling off, depending on your specific model year.

   Disconnect electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector attached to the back of the headlight bulb. Press the release tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect. Do not pull on the wiring harness itself. Set the connector aside where it will not contact hot engine components.

   Remove bulb retaining ring
   Identify the bulb retaining ring that secures the headlight bulb in the housing. Rotate the retaining ring counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it releases. Some models use a spring clip that must be unhooked and swung aside. Remove the retaining ring completely and set aside.

   Extract old bulb
   Carefully pull the old bulb straight out from the headlight housing. Avoid twisting or rocking the bulb excessively. If the bulb is stuck, gently wiggle it while pulling straight back. Inspect the bulb socket for any corrosion, melting, or damage.

   Prepare new bulb
   Remove the new H13/9008 bulb from its packaging. Handle only by the plastic base; do not touch the glass envelope. If you accidentally touch the glass, clean it with rubbing alcohol on a lint-free cloth and allow to dry completely before installation.

   Install new bulb
   Align the bulb tabs with the slots in the headlight housing. Insert the new bulb straight into the socket until it seats fully. The bulb will only fit in one orientation due to the keyed design. Ensure the bulb is seated completely against the housing seal.

   Secure retaining ring
   Reinstall the bulb retaining ring by rotating clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place. If using a spring clip design, hook the clip back into position. Verify the bulb is firmly secured and cannot be pulled out without releasing the retaining mechanism.
   Torque spec

   Bulb Retaining Ring5 Nm (4 lb-ft)

   Reconnect electrical connector
   Push the electrical connector straight onto the back of the new bulb until you hear or feel a positive click. Tug gently on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked in place. Route the wiring so it does not contact hot engine components.

   Reinstall dust cover
   Replace the dust cover or protective cap on the rear of the headlight housing. Rotate clockwise or push firmly until it seats completely. Ensure the seal is properly positioned to prevent moisture intrusion into the headlight assembly.

Reassembly

1. Verify all connections are secure and dust cover is properly installed
2. Ensure no tools or parts were left in the engine bay
3. Close hood securely

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine
• Activate headlights and verify the new bulb illuminates properly in both low and high beam modes
• Check that beam pattern appears correct and symmetric compared to opposite side
• Turn off headlights and visually inspect for any warning lights on instrument cluster
• Test turn signals if you replaced a combination bulb assembly to ensure all functions work
